I really enjoyed this issue. Liked the tensions on Oa and John turning down the offer to become an Alpha Lantern (thank god!) I also loved the panel of him sitting up working all night (I'm an architecture student and we've all pulled a few all-nighters) I'm really glad the architectural background wasn't retconned away when they made him an ex Marine. The Alpha Lanterns themselves are creepy as hell! I'm really worried about what's going to become of this. GL is so good lately that every time I get my copy I'm left wondering how the hell I'm going to wait till the next one comes out!

I finally got mine and read it. I thought it was good. It was definitely not a "filler" issue. It gave us hints on what's to come, progressed a few plots along and had some great interaction between members of the corps. A filler issue IMO is one that stands on its own and does nothing for the "big picture". After reading a "filler" issue you would have no new knowledge that you didn't have prior to reading it. I dont feel that way about this issue at all. I guess its all semantics though. Good read, looking forward to the rest of the Alpha Lantern story.

That's been bugging me for awhile too (no pun intended). I would have said that the 4 Earthmens' lanterns (and all lanterns) are connected to the Central Power Battery, so even though Parallax isn't in the CPB, he's still linked to it, thus the weakness remains. It's a thin explanation, but it's better than saying the weakness is completely arbitrary when there are five other colors besides yellow out there.Originally posted by Raker616 View PostYes. The most dubious retcon of his own retcon is the Parallax thing... we're explicitly told in Rebirth -- written by Johns -- (and reinforced in Recharge) that there's only ever a Yellow Weakness, rookie or not, if Parallax is currently contained in the Central Power Battery... now we're told that there's a Yellow Weakness regardless of where Parallax is.
Did I miss something?.
A more minor change I have a problem with is that the green parts of the GL uniform are burning hot, which was forgotten about when Hal was hugging his brother's kids in #25

That's totally nonsensical anyway. "The future can be altered, but the past is set in stone"? Future and past are relative terms. Whose future? Whose past? Every moment in time is future to somebody at some time previous to that, and every moment in time is past to somebody at a later time. To say that the past can't be altered and the future can is meaningless. It makes no sense.Originally posted by Brother Eye View PostNow read the recent issue of Booster Gold and how Rip hunter says that the future can be altered but the past is set in stone. If that's the case then why in the hell would Rip be worried if some one found out who he was. I mean by those standards Rip doesn't need to be worried since the past can't be changed so no chance of getting killed at a early age.

Thats what I thought when reading Booster Gold this month. Just one more title on the burn pile for me.Originally posted by Mister Ed View PostThat's totally nonsensical anyway. Yo.
and the Light dawns on another of the Faithful.....MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!Originally posted by Brother Eye View PostSee this is why I jumped off of the "GEOFF JOHNS IS THE BESTEST WRITER EVER!" (being said in a really lisp ridden fanboy tone) band wagon while the going got good. Another good example of Geoff retconning is read his run on JSA when Degaton was messing with the past and has his goons kill Cronos when he is a kid by making sure that the car that missed him does hit him. Now read the recent issue of Booster Gold and how Rip hunter says that the future can be altered but the past is set in stone. If that's the case then why in the hell would Rip be worried if some one found out who he was. I mean by those standards Rip doesn't need to be worried since the past can't be changed so no chance of getting killed at a early age. Sorry in advanced for those that think he is a good writer but IMHO Geoff went from a pretty decent writer to a hack writer. Looking forward to the day he is off of GL.

I do like how Mike McKone draws (pre-Alpha Lantern) Boodikka actually like Boodikka. I think she's still supposed to be even more muscled and broad than she's been shown here, but Mike's take is tooth and nails more Boodikka-like than Ivan's take (which makes her super skinny, pretty, and supermodel-ish, pretty much the opposite of what she's supposed to be on every end).
Not to slight Ivan, though. What's one misstep out of a thousand good ones? Can't win'em all.

Makes more sense."If at first you don't succeed, try Kyle again!".

Posted up GLJIMT's review here:
http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/web/glvol4-027.html
I guess I myself would give it the same star rating (***1/2, almost ****). At this point we kind of have to judge it as a Hal/John 50/50 book (where I'd disagree with GLJIMT that it is "Hal's book"... it was, but Johns has told us now that it's half Stewart's book now, too, so we just have to deal with that), so factoring that and getting a good dose of hard facts about the Alpha Lanterns this issue -- along with Scar's intrigue with Ash -- I can't knock it down much. I agree with GLJIMT about the Scarecrow opener being a little excessive page-wise, but I will say that I'm absolutely glad that it's there... when Geoff opened the Batman-verse can of worms back in the Sinestro Corps War special, it makes perfect sense a Sinestro ring would be offered to a villain of Batman's who pretty much eats, sleeps, and breathes fear. Maybe it's fan wank, but it's a good bit of fan wank.
Also glad to see it remembered that Amon Sur can regenerate heads, so probably he could come back from getting split down the torso a little by Laira (though it really does beg the question... if Amon Sur's race can regenerate whole heads... why did Abin Sur die so easily?) -- the obliteration of the corpse makes the whole matter thankfully moot.
Also relieved to see that the GLs involved in the Alpha project really do actually volunteer... I was fearing a scenario where Lanterns would just be "chosen" by the Guardians, then drug kicking and screaming to be forcibly operated upon -- this would have been a bit of a stretch to not get any immediate GL Corps backlash about.
People have been talking about Laira being a prime candidate for the Red Lantern Corps for a while now and I really haven't seen it until now. I mean, she got angry, furious even when Amon Sur killed Kehann's family, then killed Amon Sur... while a little extreme, I'd hardly use this one situation to make a rage-loving case of her, let alone grounds for her to join another Corps that would ultimately have her fighting and killing her former GL comrades. But now with her fellow "Lost Lanterns" betraying/damning her in admitting it was "murder" and her getting more than a little pissed about it, I think that may well be the way things are going.

good review by jim
here are some rants:
the art for me, wasnt really that good, i dont like the way Hal looks
, and some other GLs ... it made me frown when i saw that Boodika was drawn with a hand....a dialogue between Salaak and Laria was confusing, im sure its an error, where Salaak is like saying somethng to Laira "you expect me to sit in a sciencecell.." , i think that its supposed to be the other way around ...
though i didnt really like the art, it was a bit cool to see John being offered to be an AL, it really is interesting for me
, and the idea of GLs+Manhunters=AlphaLanterns concept, and the way this story is growing, i still like it, and cant wait for the next issue to come out
EDIT : and did you guys notice in the splash page of GLs that Graf Toren doesnt have the GL insignia in his chest... thats BS
