I disagree that hope has to be selfless. To hope for others is noble, but hoping for something for yourself isnt noble, but its still hope nonetheless. Hope is hope, regardless of motives.

So if Hal said "I hope the Guardians, Agent Orange, Sinestro, The Red Lanterns, and all villains die" then its still hope? If he truly meant it? That's selfish. What may be a problem for him may not be a problem for others.

Hal's hope will be hoping his family and friends will be okay after something happens or Larfleeze says something to make him think they are in harms way.

But its not PURE hope Like willpower. I.E. when Green arrow had a hard time making constructs because his will was to sinester. Maybe Blue has a stricter rule about that kinda thing.

While im not disputing that that may be how it works in the comics (which is mostly mere speculation at this time), my point is that Hope is not as clean cut as to say that if its not pure and noble that its not hope.
I personally think it'd be lame if the ring worked for every idiot who picked it up regardless of their intentions, but one can't really discount a theory simply because one finds it distasteful. And hope can be fueled by greed but its not greed alone or one would have to say that hope which is inspired by fear (for loved ones, personal saftey, etc.) is just simply fear.

That's selfish." lol hell yeah its selfish (...and most likely the beginnings of a major psychological issue) but yeah if he is truly sincere then it is hope. However it'd really creep me out if that was his hope lol

Well, when the Blues repowered the star, they said the hope of the planet's inhabitants fueled their rings. Wasn't their Hope for self-preservation, wasn't that a little selfish too. Hope is hope, but back to the point: Does anyone know or have an idea of what Hal Hope's for?

It could be many things such as able to stop the blackest night, the saftey for his friends & family or even something weird like sinestro becomes a GL again or Agent Orange starts a charity (lmao) but, I agree that his hope will be for redemtion in his own eyes, if no one else's for his time as parrallax.

I got a feeling that he is going to hope for his arm that Larfleeze just cut off and the arm will fly back on the nub, the blue ring restoring his arms.
