Is Firestorm black-ish again? I guess DC is hearing all the complaints on thier non-whites fading away.

Nope. At DC right now, it's pretty clear the message they're sending......

He was last mentioned in Titans #15, the Tempest issue. He supposedly gave up the guise of Aquaman... Which is fine by me, didn't like his origin one bit. The character has some uses("shock value" death, for instance) and I too would like to see what he's been up to since he's dropped off the radar.

BUT - I highly doubt it since everything from the last Aquaman arc has been erased or forgotten about(which isn't a bad thing), for the better.

Well, I just feel that for some reason, some of the "12" will be dead again by the end of this.

I'm actually liking this Firestorm story. Since Blackest Night, it's about the only thing I've been looking forward to... and I love that Reis cover.

What's the deal with Firestorm having black features and darker skin? That clearly isn't Ronnie's face or his skin tone. Plus, Jason is the inside voice.

My prediction: Deadman will give up his "slot" to someone. Same with Max Lord, though maybe not willingly. Same with Black Adam Junior.

Then guess who comes back? Ted Kord and Ralph and Sue Dibny.

I know nothing of the Martian Manhunter history, but I'm pretty sure Brightest Day #2 was a (massive)retcon.

So far this feels like the start of 52 where its nothing but vague storytelling and plot shifts. Not a good issue but not really bad either, its just plain. The writing didn't hurt the stories told but I'm not hooked into any of them besides Aquaman, and he didn't get any spotlight in this issue.

                        Deadman vs Anti-Monitor next issue.

                            Details? Highlight below.

Martian Manhunter tracks down the man who brought him to Earth, Saul Erdel. He's dead, but he enters his coffin, and finds out he had a daughter. J'Onn tracks her down, and she's really old and has little memory. He takes her from her nursing home to enter her mind. We then get a (new?) origin of the Martian Manhunter's arrival on Earth complete with Saul's daughter in the background.

Elsewhere, a woman sees Aquaman & J'Onn on television apparently soon after they've been resurrected. Something goes off, and she kills her two kids and husband. Saying "J'Onnnnnnnnnnnnz"

Firestorm is trying to get Professor Stein to split them. Ray Palmer aka (the sole living) Atom enters their flame to help. He reaches the Firestorm matrix. Before entering Ray advises the two boys to shut the fuck up so it won't be as dangerous. They don't speak, but as The Atom reaches the Matrix an unknown voice bothers Ronnie calling him "Whiteboy" and obviously makes Ronnie believe Jason said it. While they bicker, The Atom is attacked by some black symbiote like thing from the Matrix. As it tries to kill Ray, Firestorm's face is about to explode. Prof. Stein tells Ray to get out of there, but its apparently to late as we see a big explosion just as Stein raced towards the containment room.

Aquaman and Mera pick right off from the first issue, and dive into the sea. Deadman is right behind them, but they can't see or hear him. As Deadman is about to jump in behind them, he notices dead fish in the water, and wonders what's wrong with Aquaman. He yells at the ring a bit, and it takes him somewhere....He begins falling and screaming at the ring to help him fly before he hits the ground. Just before he hits the rocks below, the ring propels him. It then says "FIGHT". Deadman questions the ring, and turns around to see The Anti-Monitor standing very high over him
                            .

Well, it's not the riveting or compelling start as Blackest Night, as Brightest Day is progressing at a slower pace. This issues deals with the darker side of the Brightest Day, such as the reason why Ronnie and Jason are fused together, another character hunting one of the resurrected heroes, the circle of life pertaining to Hawkman and Hawkgirl, and the travel's of deadman. There's alot of cliffhangers in this issue that have peaked my interest.

                              SPOILERS:
The Firestorm cliffhanger caught my attention as I wonder what is that black entity within the Firestorm Matrix. The entity reminded me of Marvel's Void/Venom.

The second subplot that got my curiousity is that woman preparing dinner for her family and then killing them without a warning or hesistation, which is nearly identical to the Black Manta incident from the previous issue.

Brightest Day so far is being character driven, as the events and circumstances of their resurrections have not been revealed. Therefore, your enjoyment of Brightest Day will probably be effected on whether or not you care for the characters being featured. For me, I like that it's a mystery and I don't what the plot is exactly because it keeps me interested.

I think you're confusing 'Character Driven' plot with 'Not A lot of Action' plot
