I really liked this issue, it seemed to flow a little better than a couple of past issues.

Seeing a little bit of Deadmans past was nice as well, I know basically nothing of Deadman, except for what I've read in BD and what I saw on an episode of Justice League. Getting to see these flashbacks of sorts was nice for me.

The WL Batman part I thought was a nice little touch as well, he has now been a GL and WL, and almost part of the SC. Also, I also had a feeling Dove and Boston would hook up sometime as well, can't wait to see what happens if/when Hawk finds out.

I liked this issue. Especially the flashback we had of Boston's past. He's definitely growing on me now. I must say though, the scene where Deadman was doing flips when he jumped from the building and fought the criminals on the ground reminded me of Daredevil.

              All of them...completely unnecessary.

You(not just you specifically btw) can like Deadman now, but to excuse retconning as solely storytelling for new audiences is just feeding the monster. Its not how continuity works and is very simplistic. So of course I'm not going to enjoy an issue that retells an origin making the character an asshole and then ignoring 40years of writing. Its not development if you forcibly add a personality that wasn't there and then change it by the end of the issue, especially when you skip over...again...40 years of continuity. I don't mind Geoff taking the easy way out and retconning Deadman's past so that he was an asshole. What I do mind is that people treating it like some phenomenon as if the character has been the Guy Gardner of acrobats for 40 years and Geoff "fixed" him. Because that's NOT what happened. Just hope I'm making that clear. Now I'm done.

They actually didn't retcon Deadman's story. He WAS a huge asshole while he was alive. That was part of his journey in the afterlife. It's all there in the Arnold Drake/Jack Miller stories in Strange Adventures. It looks like they actually read the thing before they put this story together.

Where this story differs (other than Deadman's pointless costume change) is that they kind of act like Boston still hasn't learned his lesson. They kind of imply that he has and hasn't in this issue which I found odd, but it was all to make the point that Boston decides he has something to live for after all...or at least until issue #26.

So does this pretty much mean Deadman will eventually "earn" the White Lantern ring or what?

Or are they gonna have "HAwk and Dove" pull a Wonder Twins act on us?

No, I'm sure Deadman will go back to being dead in BD #26. Brave heroics and noble sacrifices will be involved.

so, in the 40 years that the character has been around being a hero, he's just started caring about others? Oh that makes perfect sense...

So he was an asshole, fine. So Johns reminds of that, also fine. But what sense does it make to have this moment of clarity when the character has been a hero SINCE then? And Dove is like 18 years old!

For a good chunk of time of him being the hero it was for his benefit. He was the hero while he looked for his own killer with hopes of not having to be a hero after that was done.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

Kind of reminds me how in Iron Man they brought back the heart problems Tony Stark had, even though they had clearly been resolved decades earlier. It's a case of a writer saying, "the status quo back then worked really well, so I'm going to disregard decades of stories to tell the kind of stories that have worked best.

Hunted Hulk anyone? Heck, this goes for any number of characters in DC and Marvel, GL being no exception.

I can't justify all of it!
