  • Green Lantern 80-Page Giant #3: Raker

Awesome little story about the GLs history with Apokolips.

At the end, Kyle wonders how Raker has managed to keep a charge in his ring this entire time. We are shown a scene of the GL symbol on Rakers forehead glow as he gives out food to the poor. This seems to imply to me that Raker was able to gather the Will of the people to power his Ring.

Is that not also similar to how the Sin Corps started? They gave away the fear they had gathered when they were chosen, then they had to use their own Fear to charge their ring.

So what do you think? could/should it work like that? Should a GL, down to 0 power, be able to Will power into his Ring? Or, say he had followers, allow their Will to power the ring? By the same token, could a Sinner use their Fear to power their ring, or generate fear among people around them and use that? Could go for all emotions really.

Yes. Concept works, could be done by the best of them.

No. Defeats the need for a Battery, at least in the best of them.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. It always stood out when I read those intro stories to Sin Corps, then I got this 80 Page and it seemed to come full circle.

Now that you mention it, Coast City did kinda lend its will to him in the Sin corps war. They burned his colour, and stuck around due to their faith in him. I could see them going somewhere with this potentially.

From the latest interview, it looks like the emotions of someone extremely powerful like the guardians will add extra power to the rings, or the entire spectrum itself temporarily. (I'm not really sure which) So it does seem possible. I bet a Fear ring would be much more useful on Apokalypse. Or if there was such a thing as a Sorrow, or despair ring.

I like that idea as well. Being in places with a lot of Fear increases the power of the Ring.

Perhaps that's why Sinestro was the Greatest Green Lantern, because the entire Will of his sector was under his control?

Thats kinda funny. I picked this up only a week and a half ago, and Jim got it a couple days later. Now you have it. Weird coincidence.

I would love for that to be used in the current GL run it's a great idea that fits in with everything that Geoff is doing in right now in GL.

It was truly a character defining moment for Raker, if nothing else.

I'd like to see it explored further.

I don't know much about the character yet. But there is a Legionare in Action Comics that has the ability to tap into the Emo Spectrum itself without any rings. Her name is Dori Aandraison of Xolnar AKA Rainbow Girl and she has harnessed Rage, Will, and Hope so far. She must evidently be incredibly strong with the force.....er uhmmm.... I mean the emotional spectrum.

This character really intrigues me and I can't wait to read more about her. Plus she's kinda cute. She's apparantly not a new character either. She was one of the earliest Legion applicants who appeared in one panel only, but she also had her own entry in Who's Who in the Legion in the 80's.

If she can tap into the Emo Spectrum herself, and potentially harness every emotion, she may very well be the most powerful being in the universe. Depending on how she taps into these powers and what her limits are.

Again pointing toward a condensation of realized emotion. Very very interesting. Let me know if you find anything more on her eh?

                              Just found this too:

Rainbow Girl: Dori Aandraison of the planet Xolnar. Possesses the ability to weild the power of the emotional spectrum, causing unpredictable mood swings from angry (red), to hopeful (blue), to confident (green), and others. She only appeared once, as a rejected Legion applicant in pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, and originally had the power to separate into four different-colored versions of herself. Red was heat, Blue was cold, Yellow was brightness, and Green was Kryptonite. She was rejected because her Green Kryptonite self posed a threat to Superboy and Supergirl.

So her powers have been tweaked a bit by Geoff to connect them with the spectrum and GL mythos. I need to find more pics of her though.
