Nope, still not feeling it. One of the big criticisms of the original Green Arrow, way back in the 40's was basically that there was nothing that made him all that different from from all the other non-superpowered, the only thing that made him different from Batman, the Green Hornet, the Shadow and so on was his costume - something that Kevin Smith brought up during Quiver when Bruce teases Ollie about the Arrow cave, Arrow car and so on.

This is pretty much ho I feel about DCnU Green Arrow. Ollie has no character, he could ultimately be any rich philanthropist who puts on a costume and fights crime.
I have been spoiled when it comes to Ollie, first by Grell, then by Smith, Meltzer and Winick (at least to begin with) who wrote character driven stories; focussing on the man rather than the mask; focussing on the relationships between characters rather than a series of fight scenes linked by vacant and empty dialogue.

No, I'm not impressed so far by nU Green Arrow. I'll be fair and give it to the end of this story arc or #6, whichever comes first - I've been following the character long enough to give him that - but if it continues to be about some guy in a green costume who shoots trick-arrows then I'm dropping the title.

As an example of what I am liking at the moment: Animal Man, Captain Atom and Mr. Terrific and Red Hood &t Outlaws* For the simple reason that they focus and concentrate on developing the character's identity, behaviour and relationships as much as they do the overall plot and story.

*yes, despite my tirade elsewhere about the jerk-mentality objectification of Starfire

I'm in the same boat. The Smallvilleness of this book is just not doing it for me.

I'd disagree with the use of 'Smallvilleness' - simply because Smallville was all about the characters, with the heroics and powers being almost incidental.

The only Smallvilleness is in the costume and the supposed de-aging of Ollie*. I'd actually be pleased if they took a more Smallville approach to the characters (minus all the dramatic angst that seems hardwired into shows for the older teen/college student demographic).

        * (I really want that explained, considering before Flashpunch Ollie was older than Bruce)

Ann Nocenti to write for GREEN ARROW
Fan-favorite creator Ann Nocenti will be taking over as writer for GREEN ARROW in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 – her first ongoing series for DC Comics. Nocenti has previously written for such iconic DC Comics characters as Batman, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, and is well known across the industry for her work on gritty, street-level heroes.

“I’m thrilled to be taking over Green Arrow. What I adore about the Arrow is his recklessness. He’ll shoot off on an impulse, dispatch someone if they deserve it; his heroism is instinctive. I start with a crazy trilogy that is chock full of surprises. Arrow gets a new woman (and boy, is it complicated), flings himself out of his old life into a new one, and meets a new world class villain. It’s gonna be a wild ride!”

Nocenti’s run begins with GREEN ARROW #7, so don’t miss it.

So by issue #7, the book will have been written by Krul, Jurgens, Giffen, and Nocenti. Way to get your house in order DC.

I never came back for #2. DC obviously isn't taking this book seriously, so neither am I.

That's promising from the write-up, although I'm not familiar with her work. I'll have to look in to some of those earlier titles.
Street level and gritty are two out of three wishes I have for GA, the third being (as said numerous times already) a character-centric book.

*reads article* Her awareness, or lack thereof, of Green Arrow history is alarming - but that aside, reading here interview and about her resumé has me almost wanting to build a shrine in her honour.
Damn, I think my hopes just got up.

I'm happy she's taking over but I wish they would just turn Green Arrow back into the Hero of the people and less into Tony Stark. Also I wish Roy, Mia and Connor would come back too.

When Nocenti comes on board they should relaunch Green Arrow with another new #1.

I would agree except that it would be ridiculously embarrassing for them to do so.

Nah. It's been a while since they relaunched the book anyway. Fans don't like titles with high numbers, and the exposure of a new #1 for Green Arrow would probably do the book some good.

Been a while? You do know she's coming in at issue 7 right? And that pre-Flashpoint Green Arrow had only made it 15 issues since "Fall of Green Arrow" and before that Green Arrow/Black Canary had only made it 27 issues? They restart that shit more than Legion.

And who says fans don't like high numbers? How can that even be proven?

Technically it was 31 issues, although the last 4 issues dropped 'Black Canary' from the title.
