It'll last if the new costume gets people to buy the comic or if barely anyone complains about it

            • Details On Marvel/Sony SPIDER-MAN Deal; Drew Goddard Eyed To Direct Solo Movie

According to leaked documents from the infamous "Sony Hacks" the deal is shown as,

we've been provided with some of the leaked documents from the "Sony Hack", and they offer up more details on the deal which was being discussed between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in regards to the future of Spider-Man. It's worth noting that some of this contradicts and confirms what we heard from some of those obscure foreign sites (who probably made up that information for attention and "via" traffic, especially as most of it sounded like glorified fan-fiction).

If Spider-Man appears in Captain America: Civil War, Sony will co-finance 25% of the movie. Marvel then co-finances 25% of Spider-Man's next solo film which is scheduled to be released in July 2017. The deal allows Sony to use TWO major Marvel characters and continue the plot from Civil War in regards to how it relates to Spider-Man. Spider-Man would also appear in Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 in 2018, with another Marvel produced Spider-Man movie following in July 2019.

Sony asked for approval over the costume, script (but only the parts specifically involving Spider-Man), and casting, with said actor required to sign a three-picture deal or more. The way this part of the document is worded makes it sound very much like a collaboration rather than one studio having more control than the other. They do however point out that Kevin Feige must serve as a producer, and if for some reason he leaves Marvel, they would be allowed to select his replacement. They also want Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach to be given executive producer credits, and state that it would be pre-agreed that Drew Goddard both writes and directs the first movie.

On the business side of things, if any of the Marvel movies Spider-Man is included in misses their release date, Sony would be paid damages of $100 million, and the deal would be terminated. Sony have only three years and nine months to start pre-production before the rights revert, and Captain America: Civil War would reset the clock on this period. Sony also asked for Marvel's help in ensuring that the "D Machine" would have to be accessible for Spider-Man's solo movies in regards to their TV channels, radio networks, theme parks, and more. The deal would be announced at a press event by both studios on a mutually agreed upon date.

We've also seen documents which indicate that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned only $65 million BEFORE overheads, and that they expect earnings to significantly increase after making the deal with Marvel. These are internal documents, and it's not clear how much would change as the deal is discussed. However, this appears to have been put together following discussions rather than as a proposal. We have of course heard that talks broke down, but nothing specific in regards to why, and various outlets have since reported that this is going to happen. Stay tuned for updates...

              • I want this to happen bad. If DC's films are on par with Marvel's then Marvel will need something big like Spiderman in Capt. America and Avengers to compete with Batman and Superman in their movies. I welcome the idea of an older Spiderman in his final years of college or hell maybe he's getting some teacher's assistant hours in before becoming a teacher like he was for a time around Civil War. If I had to make a wild guess, Ironman would be one of the characters to get used in the Spidey/Civil War films later on to follow through on bits like the Iron Spider and Osborn becoming Iron Patriot. I just hope Spiderman doesn't reveal his ID like in the comics. Ironman/RDJ getting more love and being the glue that connects the two film universes would be epic. And he'd be 100 times richer than he is now... LOL

to be fair, this could be supported by 616 Hawkeye & Cap looking like their U-M versions, and the U-M Iron Man just being a carboncopy of the 616 version (as opposed to that more bulky & distinct look he originally had.)

well if this does become official it kind of gives me hope that maybe fox will do something similar with ff. i mean lets be honest the first to were decent not great and the third one is pretty much destined to fail hard

if both sony and fox want to make there universes maybe work out some form of deal with marvel to get that going. i admit when it comes to legal shit im slow and from what i read about the article i posted i think thats the only best solution for both parties

                    • Marvel wanted either Spider-Man from Sony or Wolverine from Fox. I think they went with the better option of the two. Hugh Jackman mentioned months ago he'd be down for becoming an Avenger but hopefully if that bridge is ever crossed they recast Logan...

And Magneto hasn't been red and purple in years, Cyclops has his Now costume and I can't believe it's lasted this long, and Wonder Woman lost the gold and it'll a loooooong time before she gets it back

see the thing is i would'nt want either in the avengers but id love to see them involved in the infinity wars as there own persons not affiliated with the group as far as being on the team itself go's.

feigie also stated the movie will be different from the comic in regards to civil war so it could work and that way it prevents any further headache from fox and sony and the whole well ya know the deal was sony has has say in regards to spiderman and what he does in these movies. the only real thing i dislike about this deal is sony being able to cast spiderman for civil war because as much as i enjoyed garfield and i did i think marvel can cast somebody better that sony couldnt. and this isnt the fanboy in me talking im just dead serious because marvel always signs some if not the best unexpected stars for there properties.

                          • For an older Spider-Man it has to be somebody else. With Civil War, I wonder if it's not the same as the comics because of Sony and Fox owning rights to characters and if Disney works something out with Sony I wonder if it will closer resemble the source material.

Personally I'd like for Disney to get rights back to the F4 so we can see the Hulk vs Thing...

now as for spiderman personally the college idea is great but id prefer him to be maybe 31 or 32 again just my opinion

                              • I wouldn't want him that old, late 20's at the most. If Spidey is in his thirties other heroes would be well in their forties.
