  • His Peter Parker is my main problem. The skateboarding and making him hip is just dumb, I like Parker better as a nerd. Sure the guy playing him could be better looking than Tobey from the first three films, but in no way does the character of Peter Parker need that kind of overhaul or reimagining.

I like the idea of Jake Gyllenhaal coming into the role of a more matured Parker, but who could Andrew Garfield play in the broader MCU?

i agree with you on jake now as for andrew i see him more as kyle rayner for dc's green lantern but i could somewhat see him as sam alexander aka nova. id love to see mathew fox as tridon

im really curious to see about the inhumans though as to who will be playing karnak, medusa and crystal and who knows maybe sky's quak will be a part of the team since everything is connected

        • Maybe give him a 3rd string cameo type of role like Darkhawk, Speedball, or something in GotG like Starhawk or Adam Warlock.

His Peter was a completely different person. It had nothing to do with "modernizing a character for a modern audience," he's a fucking archetype, the Nerd is never going to go away in reality and Peter Parker is a Nerd. Turning him into a douchebag doesn't make him worth watching.
actually......no. he'd stopped being that when he got out of high school; not sure if U've ever done read anything from that period, but Parker in his college days wasnt anything like the introvert he was in h.s. (largely thnx to Gwen, b4 she got deaded.)

yea, Id rather have that version than a guy who continues to keep his eyes & voice lowered.......just becuz. give me the guy who found a backbone and started to enjoy his life, rather than hiding from it. any day.

            • The main problem with Garfield's Peter Parker, IMHO, was just that he wasn't very likable. I don't care so much where he falls on the nerd-scale, but whether he's insecure and introverted, or more social, he should, I think, be somebody you see as a genuinely nice guy. Somehow I didn't get that from Garfield's portrayal (though I will say that my vague recollection of the second film is that he got a bit more likable than in the first).

              • I thought Garfield's Peter Parker was all over the place. I really didn't care for the Bruce Wayne imitation. First, his character got off the wrong foot, when he went Avenging Spider-Man after Uncle Ben's death, much like Batman. Secondly, Peter played detective in trying to solve the mystery of his parents' death. Then they try to mix in some Tobey Peter Parker with hipster Parker.

EDIT: And as Mr. Ed notes, he wasn't likable.

                  • Only when they killed of Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe. If Peter Parker was portrayed like Bruce Wayne in the Ultimate Universe, I probably wouldn't have like it there either. I mean, I didn't like the TV show Arrow because I thought it was a rip off of the Batman mythos.

Miles Morales is the Ultimate Spider-Man for me.

LAWL!! ok, all kidding aside: the issue with his parents being missing IIRC was a plot for him in those early days. also, U *DO KNOW* that Ollie operated alot like Bats did back in *his* early days, right?

                      • Nope. I didn't read DC comics when I was a kid. However, I'm glad the modern iterations of the character is not dark and brooding in the comics. I mean, even Neal Adams said, "Put a fucking smile on his face!" when asked by Kevin Smith about the TV Show Arrow.

Of which I am quite aware. He is still a nerd, and while it may not be the glasses-with-tape and pocket protector of yesteryear, the guy has a brain, and he didn't stick up for himself or others before becoming Spider-Man. If you want to do an origin story set in high school, follow the layout from half a century ago, because it still works today.

Setting it with him already spidered-up and even as an established adult and superhero, I'm fine with that, but don't write him as a rejected goon from Flash Thompson's gang, and don't devalue his intellect by having him copy-paste his dad's achievements or buy his webbing and shooters pre-made by his enemies.

                            • UGH. Retcons are disgusting. Retcons to sync up with a movie franchise is just disgustingly shameful.
