Late last fall, the word got out that Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning and Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld were among the young ladies being eyed to play young Jean Grey in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse, while Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet were under consideration for the role of young Cyclops.
Well, it looks like those names were preliminary because I got a new batch of names and these young folks are actually testing for the roles at this stage.
Producer Simon Kinberg has already stated that the film will bring in younger actors to play Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.
For Young Cyclops the new contenders are Taron Edgerton, Jamie Blackley, and Tye Sheridan.
Taron brings his A game in the upcoming Kingsman (which was super hot by the way), Jamie was in If I Stay last year, and Tye Sheridan was in Mud back in 2012. Of this group, I like Taron the best.
For Young Jean Grey the new contenders are Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan.
Saoirse Ronan was all sorts of awesome in Hanna and Sophie Turner is Sansa Stark on Game Of Thrones. This one is a really tough call but I have to give a slight advantage to Ronan who was a straight up ninja in Hanna. She does action really well and was almost in Star Wars.
For Young Storm the contenders being mentioned for the first time are Alexandra Shipp and Zendaya Coleman. Alexandra played Aaliyah recently in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B and will next be seen in Straight Outta Compton. Zendaya has a background in television with shows like Shake It Up, Zapped, and K.C Undercover. I'm placing my bet on Alexandra.
Yesterday, we learned at the TCAs that A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders would arrive roughly one-year apart. However, this conflicted with an earlier report from Marvel saying that Jessica Jones was arriving later this year.
During the Netflix panel at the TCAs, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos noted that production on Jessica Jones, which stars Krysten Ritter as the eponymous superhero, hasn’t even begun yet, adding “a lot happens from the first day on the set to the last day of production…I don’t want to set up a rigid timetable and deliver a show every eight months or every twelve months.”
If you’re hoping that “eight months” part would imply Jessica Jones would appear in 2015, Sarandos told IGN, “It’s too hard to say now.”
At the rate of one show per year, we wouldn’t get Defenders until 2019, which would be a bit funny since that’s the same year as the MCU’s big event, The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.
The one thing I can't stand about the live action X Men is how all of the ages for everyone are screwed up. Have they said anything about a younger Iceman or would he only be around 5 when Cyclops is a teen now?
Let's get to some fan questions for the first time in a couple of weeks. Owain asks about a comic that hasn't yet been announced, but does seem likely: "Can you give us any info about the Doctor Strange ongoing? The 'New Avengers' Annual by Frank Barbiere and Marco Rudy was amazing, and I'm hoping for something even greater with the new team."
Alonso: I'm very excited about the creative team -- that's all I can say.
Spidey616 follows up on this week's "Ant-Man" #1 and asks, "Now that Cassie Lang is back any chance of a reunion with her Young Avengers teammates? Any YA plans in 2015 that you can tease?"
Alonso: Right now in "Ant-Man," we're just focusing on Cassie's relationship with Scott and her mom and their new life in Miami. Cassie went through about as traumatic experience as anyone can go through, and now that they've got her back, her parents want to keep her safe. That's a large part of the reason why they left super hero-heavy NYC for Miami. Trouble has a way of following Scott, though...
As for any YA plans for 2015, we've definitely got plans for several of those characters in the second half of 2015, but that's all I can say right now.
A little disappointed in the new Age of Ultron trailer because we still didn't get a look at Vision. Also a little happy that the trailer didn't appear to reveal any major plot points/spoilers. I won't watch the trailer again after watching 3 times last night. I'm going to see the movie, no need to risk spoiling the film.
You just witnessed the strength of geek knowledge. N.W.A., Nerd With Attitude. Straight out of Vulcan!
honestly this felt like the first one but with a few new scenes. didnt hate it didnt love it i just found it meh and i think the first trailer was better because man james spader and that diolauge gave me goosebumps. also what are the chances the chick shown by the water in that cave is t'challas sister? i only say that because feigie stated back on october 28th last year seeds will be planted early and its a given serkis is klaw
I was disappointed when Edgar Wright left the project. After watching the teaser for Ant-Man, I'm not sure what to expect from the film. Since it started out to be an Edgar Wright film, I was thinking this would be a more humorous film like Guardians of the Galaxy, but the teaser's tone appeared to be more dramatic with Paul Rudd having some moments levity.
whats wrong with this being dramatic? this is most likely what marvel was aiming for thus possibly being why wright left because wasnt it officially confirmed he left do to creative differences? i admit i havent seen any of wrights work but seeing as he is more comedy do you think someone like that could transition from comedy to drama? im not comparing him to this director im using for a example but if you took nolan who is known for realistic tones in his films and put him to direct a straight up comedy lets be honest it would suffer because nolan hasnt jumped into that genre. same with wright with jumping from comedy to a drama. plus i think even before production it was always known as a heist film so how would comedy like gotg work for that?
they really didnt show a lot to give anything away wich is nice but i expected newer footage but whatever. less than 3 months itll be out so im still pumped
In a very spoilery report on all things Marvel, the folks over at Latino Review are saying that the Sony deal with Marvel went through, and the character is set to make his MCU debut in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War Part I. Now, obviously, this is to be taken as rumor for now, as the particulars involved in this sort of deal are no doubt incredibly complicated—there’s a lot of money at stake and this is Sony’s only superhero play.
But we did recently learn that Marvel really wanted the Spider-Man deal to go through so they could use the character in Captain America: Civil War, so if the deal did happen, it makes sense that they’d want to use him in one of their major Phase Three films. Rumors are swirling that the lineup for The Avengers is going to be very different in the two-part Infinity War saga (Latino Review has more details on that, but be warned, they are incredibly spoilery), and if that’s true then Spidey’s introduction fills a hole left by some of the original members.
The report claims that the character will be recast, meaning Andrew Garfield is no longer Spider-Man. If so, that’s a damn shame. The guy did an incredible job inhabiting the character in Sony’s films despite some truly terrible scripts, and I’d love to see him continue on under the creative direction of the folks at Marvel. But I understand their hesitance to use the same actor—some audience members may be confused as to whether the Amazing films are canon in this new Marvel universe, and Marvel no doubt wants a clean slate.
Again, this is all conjecture for now, but it’s an interesting prospect nonetheless. Marvel is incredibly powerful so I have no doubt they’ve been working hard to bring Spider-Man into the fold. Hopefully we hear some official word on the future of Spider-Man soon.
