'X-Men: Apocalypse' Casts Fan-Favorite Character Jubilee
The dream of the '90s is alive and well… and in next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, it seems.
Director Bryan Singer has revealed that newcomer Lana Condor has joined the cast of the next X-Men movie as none other than Jubilation Lee — or, as she's better known by longterm X-fans, Jubilee.
Singer announced the news on Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.
Jubilee first appeared in 1989's Uncanny X-Men No. 244, the creation of writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri, before going on to become a mainstay not only of Marvel Entertainment's X-Men comic books over the next decade, but also one of the lead characters of Fox's 1990s X-Men animated series, which served as an introduction for many to the characters, and indeed comics as a whole.
The character has already appeared in the Fox movie series, played by both Katrina Florece and Kea Wong in cameo appearances in 2000's X-Men and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. (Wong also played the character in a sequence cut from 2003's X2: X-Men United.) Additionally, she was one of the lead characters in the failed 1996 TV adaptation of X-Men spin-off Generation X, where she was played by Heather McComb.
Condor will join an already announced cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp in the sequel to last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past, .
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released May 16, 2016.
