Reminds me a little of what DC did with the Spectre. In the Spectre's case though, there should never have been any hosts at all. He should have been Jim Corrigan. Period.

Gina Prince-Bythewood to Direct Sony’s Marvel Universe Film ‘Silver Sable and Black Cat’
------------------------“Beyond the Lights” director Gina Prince-Bythewood will take on “Silver Sable and Black Cat,” a spinoff of the Spider-Man universe.
Prince-Bythewood will also rewrite the script penned by “Thor: Ragnarok” scribe Chris Yost. A previous draft was written by “Westworld” co-creator Lisa Joy. Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the project.
In the comic books, Silver Sable is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. Black Cat is burglar named Felicia Hardy, who briefly appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” played by Felicity Jones. While both characters exist in Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, Prince-Bythewood’s film will not be a crossover with the web-slinger.
“Silver Sable and Black Cat” is not the only Spider-Man movie in the works at Sony — the studio is developing a “Venom” film as well. It recently tapped Tom Hardy to star and Ruben Fleischer to direct. “Venom” will swing into theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.
Prince-Bythewood is best known as the writer and director of the beloved 2000 film “Love & Basketball,” starring Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps, and the 2008 drama “The Secret Life of Bees.” She more recently helmed the 2014 romantic drama “Beyond the Lights,” which earned an Oscar nomination for best original song. Lately, she’s been primarily focused on TV, most notably on the Fox limited series “Shots Fired” (which she created with her husband, Reggie Rock Bythewood). She also just finished directing the pilot for another Marvel property — Freeform’s upcoming “Cloak & Dagger” TV series.

‘X-Men: The New Mutants’ Shifts from YA-Focus to “Full-Fledged Horror Movie”
The New Mutants, the long anticipated X-Men spinoff movie, is going to be a comic book film that goes in an unusual direction. “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” director Josh Boone says. “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”
Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams has been cast in the role of Wolfsbane and Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik. Sources close to the production say that Henry Zaga, seen most recently in 13 Reasons Why (where he played Tony’s boyfriend, Brad), will soon be announced in the role of Sunspot. (Unconfirmed chatter has it that Rosario Dawson is currently in talks as well.)
The New Mutants, which was created by Chris Claremont in the early ’80s, is about a group of teenage mutants, a kind of superheroes-in-training, who must learn to control their powers. When artist Bill Sienkiewicz — whom Boone calls “one of the most amazing comic book artists ever” — came aboard for No. 18 in 1984, the series took a turn for what Boone describes as, “a darker and more surreal and impressionistic X-Men series than we’d ever seen before. It felt like Stephen King meets John Hughes.”
It’s this run of the comic that inspired what we’ll see in The New Mutants which is currently scheduled for a spring 2018 release (and shooting for a PG-13 rating). Boone is keeping mum on actual plot details, but a source close to the project explained how mutants are at their most dangerous (both to themselves and others) when their powers are new. (Like, say, their teenage years!) Says the source: “Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

No connection to Spiderman? Doesn't matter who's writing and directing it. Christopher Nolan could do a movie about DC's Huntress and Crimson Fox, but if there was no Bat connection for at least one of them the pair starring in a film has no chance and the pairing Sony's got in their heads seems completely random.Originally posted by W.West View PostGina Prince-Bythewood to Direct Sony’s Marvel Universe Film ‘Silver Sable and Black Cat’

They're thinking girl power is gonna be big soon after WW and Capt. Marvel... and they're gonna capitalize by having TWO strong independent women headlining a film. I just wonder if they're gonna go the full monty and cast one with an ethnic actress in one of the roles.

Eh.... I'm not as impressed as I think I should be. I was hoping for a type of Wakanda more like the one from the Avengers EMH cartoon. It doesn't look bad, but it didn't wow me either.
I'm betting Panther or Capt. Marvel will be the first big stinker for Marvel Studios.
