Can't upload an avatar

I've tried to upload an avatar from my computer. The file (tif) does fit within the size parameters, but I just keep getting a "not a valid image file" message. Uploading from imageshack didn't work either.

If its no larger than 120x150 and not more than 190kb, then try opening the tif in MSpaint or Photoshop and saving it as a bmp or jpg.

Try hovering your cursor over the image, sometimes they are bigger than some programs will tell you (I notice that happens quite often with Photoshop). Or tif files may just not be compatible, which is why changing it would fix this.

Size parameters, meaning dimensions, or filesize? There's a limit of -- I believe -- 200,000 bytes.

In any case, try to convert your image file to .JPG or .GIF and then try to re-upload it -- I'm not certain .TIF is supported.

TIF is the most unsupported image format out there

at work our Scanned documents are in TIF but if I need to email a doc to someone I have to print it and have it rescanned as a PDF its crazy

Thanks! At first I tried using bmp, but that didn't work. However, when I tried jpg, well, as you can see it worked!

Speakin' of, how do you post pics in this space. I've figure out for an avatar. But I've seen some comic page layouts here and can't get them to post. Do they also need to be 190kb?

I've tried these things, and I STILL can't get an avatar up there!

I can post one of those little things at the bottom near my quote, and I can post a pic in the body of my post, but I can't get a little pic in the corner by my name goddamnit! I just want to put a pic of Hal or a GL cover there, but everything says "invalid url".

Other than that, I'm done decorating. Can anyone help?

Hm, can you post the avatar you want here or in PM? I'll set you up with it if you do.

Probably some issue of dimension, file size, or file type.

I would think that an invalid Url message means perhaps that site has hot links blocked I would down load the pic to your comp then upload back here

It's not the best choice, but it's Hal and nobody here is already using it. I don't know if it'll work here. One of the guys that posts here made a wallpaper of it, and it's linked to wherever is hosting it for him.

Well no wonder it won't work... that image is huge dimension-wise! I'll fix it up, reupload it, and set you up with it in a moment.
