  • Frank has a point, Diseny are buying everything up. I imagine their next target would probably be time Warner thus buying DC. After that, they'll keep on buying up more and more, heck, they'll probably buy the rights to AVP before long.

    • They won't be able to buy everything that would cause Disney to have a monopoly on a whole market which as far as I know is unlawful.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

I'm curious at what point it would reach the "unlawful" stage. I mean, they would NEVER be able to own ALL entertainment production, since there will likely always be at least SOME small, independent producers of entertainment. If they own all the major movie studios, would that be a monopoly? I just don't know where the law draws the line.

        • Its true its against the law, but I'm not sure what percent you're allowed to own before it becomes an issue, I know MS got in shit a few years back for it, but surely MS percent of the PC market is overwhelmingly in their favour, with only one rival in Mac.

          Maybe that's Disney next target

Although that rumour about MS buying EA just never seems to go away, so I don't know.

Robinson yeah I know Disney has helped finance some good movies, and some shit ones, that aint my point, I don't think its good for any industry when one company owns so much.

I personally cant wait to see the movie where everyone is in the same universe, Marvel vs DC vs Star Wars vs Nintendo vs Disney, biggest box office hit ever, make it happen Disney.

          • In the big picture Disney doesn't own that much on the movie making side except for pixar and the effects houses. I know I'm minimalizing it but there are larger studios out there.

Its their catalog of characters that a enormous now and gives them lots of leverage.

Relatively, anyway. My younger kids haven't seen Episode III yet, due to them likely being somewhat disturbed by Anakin going evil, killing a bunch of kids (albeit off camera), getting his legs cut off, and then catching on fire and burning to a crisp while we watch...

Very true. Monopolies are definitely a rare breed. Now, that isn't to say Disney isn't expanding in size, but to call something a "monopoly" takes quite a bit of stipulations to be met.

And though Disney has mounds and mounds of money, they aren't going to drop $4 billion on investments all the time.

Plus, Warner Brother's parent company Time Warner is bigger than Disney is anyway so I don't see them selling those assets to a direct competitor. Lucasfilms was a unique bird in that it was a sole company owned by a single person. It just happened to be worth a shit-ton of money, and Lucas decided he needed more money for god knows what and sold it all. Kind of sad in a way.

Oh please. You're just afraid they'll (rightfully) scream "THIS IS BULLSHIT" when Vader whines "Nooooooooooo!"

                    • Y'know, something just occurred to me. It is going to seem really odd to watch a Star Wars movie in the theater and have it preceded by the Cinderella Castle rather than that 20th Century Fox fanfare. That bit of music is pretty much inescapably linked with Star Wars in my mind. I remember as a small kid, seeing that intro on some OTHER 20th Century Fox production, and assuming it meant Star Wars was coming up, and being disappointed when it wasn't.

Trust me. That's one thing I'm NOT afraid of. No kid in my house is EVER likely to scream that, for any reason. Too much influence from a dad who yells things like, "Dagnabit!" when he hurts himself or screws something up.

(Plus my oldest has seen it, and didn't react that way. I was actually surprised how little he was bothered by the more gruesome bits, actually, given his strong reaction to blood dripping in the first Spiderman movie.)

Nah, no guns. I do have a lot of facial hair, though.

Alot of times, I see something on a film like someones face getting torn off or cut in half where my dad goes "er", but I just sit there thinking "is this it"? lol

I'd say a little of the first (though the word is "squeamish"), and a whole lot of the second. I feel like you are the kind of person that, had you lived back then, would have been booing gladiators if they failed to kill their opponents messily enough.
