altho, AFAICR not only does the ion cannon knock out shields, but it also fucks w/electrical systems; while it wouldnt be a direct kill it *could possibly* drop planes & stop heavy artillery from moving........

Well, the implication was that TIEs would be struck down immediately by the canons. The Walkers, on the other hand, could take direct fire long enough to destroy the shields. I agree though that the AT-ATs are style over substance as either transports or weapons.

I would use artillery (rockets or missiles due to longer range) to struck down the cannons.

WWII armies dont have TIE Bombers, and while tanks might give ya something to fight with (to be more than just a bunch of suicidal loonys) this is dependent on getting close enuff to do something...........but with their slow moving speed, shorter weapons range & an environment that on avg was neg 61 degrees C, I wouldnt give ya good odds on yur success.

they could/would be shot down due to the targeting computers of the heavy cannons........or any ground trooper with a good eye.

SW never show to have any kind of Phalanx type of interceptor. And even then guns are fired in batteries so that a few missiles or projectiles pass through the defense. No defense system is perfect and some would be bound to pass.

granted, those things were gangly & retarded-looking, but their armor wasnt ANYTHING to spit at...........

the Atagar came w/targeting comps & could fire in 8-round bursts; and considering the rockets & missles of THAT TIME in our worlds history, its not like U'll be filling the sky with'em.

and dont forget: no atk plan is perfect either. yur the 1 using 1940s weapon tech w/o benefit of the 70+ years of refinements we're used to dealing with today.......

Phalanx is not the same as a targeting computer. Iīm talking about rapid fire guns design to shred missiles. And even those arenīt that effective.

If I concentrate enough guns and artillery, no matter your defenses, I will shred your forces to pieces. And the Empire could outgun the Rebels by a large margin.

and yur offensive forces would have to get CLOSE ENUFF to be able to do that, and just by using a multitude of those 2 towers Im sure I can keep ya from doing that since they have the far better range...........and thats w/o my use of the snowspeeders & groundtroops.

See, unlike sci-fi, most modern weaponry works with long range system and beyond the line of sight. You would never see my forces. Most modern artillery systems can target enemy forces from miles. Those guns the rebels have seem to be direct fire weapons, meaning they have limited traverse, no elevation and have to operate with the Mk.I Eyeball system.

My self would have commando teams paint the targets for my artillery, which would be safely behind my lines and covered by AAM networks and pummel you from the distance. The Light Gun, which is a 105 gun and generally weakest gun, has a range of 20 km, which is beyond anything you could throw at me.

And the kicker? You could have SW gear and I could have modern military weapons and you would still loose.
