A man after my own heart. I own, and have read, every Star Trek novel ever published, to my knowledge (OK, technically there are a few hardcovers that I don't own yet, but I've read them).

I would rather watch Episodes I-III than read/watch expanded universe stuff

Ashes of Eden was one of my favorites. I used devour everything Q (and there were some good ones that got so fixed in my head that I couldn't remember what was the show and what was the book). Of those, the one that connected Trelane with the Q was probably my favorite.Originally posted by Mister Ed View PostA man after my own heart. But it has/does capture the feeling of Marvel. Where as every EU book I've read just didn't feel like Star Wars to me.Originally posted by JohnnyV View PostYou EU haters are just weird. I guess the Marvel Ultimate Universe must be just full of shit too, since it isn't real like 616...

But that's just it, those individual stories felt like that. How many of them did you read? 3, 4, 5, of what...looks like 50 or more books. Not to mention the video games and shows, which is also part of the EU. Doobie Brother Thor never felt like Marvel to me, but it doesn't mean I shit on the rest of Ultimate Marvel.Originally posted by Iggy View PostBut it has/does capture the feeling of Marvel. NooooOriginally posted by JohnnyV View PostNo one could have played the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series, Jedi Knight series and/or KOTOR and not have come away with an appreciation for atleast a corner of the EU. Hell, one of the greatest characters of the entire Star Wars history was fashioned in the EU with Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I am a sarcastic motherfucker.
I am aware of this, and I acknowledge this.
I know that one of the greatest shortcomings of the Internet is the inability to convey tone.
However, know this...
This is not a joke.
This is not sarcasm.
This is an actual question.
Who in the blue hell is Grand Admiral Thrawn?

I was also kind of fond of the one where Lwaxana Troi got the powers of the Q. As I recall, much of the book wasn't that great, but the part where Mrs. Troi realized that Q was toying with her and acted the part of the proverbial woman scorned was VERY amusing.Originally posted by Space Cop View PostAshes of Eden was one of my favorites. I will say that, as far as Star Trek books go, one nice thing is that, for the most part they are stand-alone. Recently they have started a trend of having a lot of books that are part of ongoing storylines that pick up where the shows left off and tie the whole universe together, and while I HAVE been enjoying that for the most part, I think it really makes getting in to the books harder for new readers (as well as being kind of foreign to the nature of the actual shows, which usually had only the loosest of ongoing plot arcs). I think they are trying to deliberately mimic the nature of the Star Wars EU, and while I can't really blame them, it does seem to have lost a bit of a Star Trek nature.
