    • :sigh: damnit disney enough with prequels

Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net are hearing from one of their sources that the wise Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi will be getting his own stand alone film!

      According to the source,
"I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie."

An Obi-Wan Kenobi film makes a tonne of sense! Ewan McGregor, who played Kenobi in the prequels, still very much looks the part and has said he'd be open to returning to the part. Kenobi is the one character to transcend every major Star Wars canon project so far (all six films, The Clone Wars, and Rebels).

What else is interesting is the "fans voting for him on the official website" line. It is of course referring to 'This Is Madness' 2014 where Obi-Wan emerged victorious, defeating Darth Vader in the final round (and Han Solo in the 'Light Side' finals). The idea that 'This Is Madness' could have any impact on future projects from Lucasfilm makes me want to campaign even harder for Ahsoka Tano in 2015!

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

for me with star wars they can do so much with going forward instead of backward

as a star wars fan i can easily say the only movies im interested is episodes 7 - 9. if disney comes out and does a spinoff that furthers that trilogy ok i will bite but for now i have no desire for any spinoff films because we already know that story. the clone wars bla bla bla fall of the republic blah blah blah.

          • Well, for me, the movies I'm interested are already made. The rest is just more potential to make a cool franchise a little less cool.

eh i dunno man ive stated before i was never a trek fan but jj did get me into watching the os and a bit of tng. i loved his take on star trek and yes i know people are mixed on it feeling more like star wars but i think even the biggest trekkie can agree jjs films were better than the very first trek film.

also with the eu being non canon disney and whoever else directs 8 and 9 could utilize a darth bane and have him be the villain of that time frame instead of having to tell a story thousands of years prior.

me id love to see duncan jones direct a star wars picture because i feel hes really under rated , i also think the guy who did gravity could do something epic as well. i didnt like gravity as far as story gos but what he did with the cinemtogrophy was amazing

              • Yeah, I actually like Abrams' stuff and I have little doubt that his movie will be entertaining.

My problem is the one I've stated a few times--I have always taken Return of the Jedi to mean the rebels have decidedly beaten the Empire (nothing left but cleanup) and the Sith are defeated once and for all (a feeling encouraged if you take the prophecy of the prequels to be fulfilled in the heroic death of Anakin and his son's work). Now, other fans may disagree with that reading of RotJ, but its a legitimate take on it ... until Episode VII comes out and we find out all the sacrifices and victories of Ep. VI were impermanent and short-lived because some aspect of the empire and/or the Sith remain. So, to me this is the equivalent of finding out Voldemort wasn't really defeated by Harry or whatever other series had seemingly come to a happy ending.

Now, it's possible you could come up with some other non-Empire, non-Sith villain, but that would be anti-climatic and I'm 99% sure that is not what they will do. So my really big problem with Ep. 7 is that it is now going to make my happy-ever-after understanding of RotJ non-canonical. So, in that respect I find the mere concept that there will be an Ep. 7 depressing. From 2015 on I will never be able to watch RotJ without thinking Anakin only sacrificed himself to temporarily interrupt the Sith and the rebels didn't really win.

i think as far as any sith returning it should be palpatines mentor. i say that because he supposedly found a way to cheat death and he was mentioned in episode 3 so he does exist in the movie universe already on screen or not.

i also really liked that rumored title that was floating around titled an ancient fear. a sith like plaguies would fit that title perfectly

Absolutely. I would love to see McGregor get another crack at the character.

                    • I figure, if they are going to dip into the past, they might as well use McGregor while he's still age appropriate enough to do it. He was the shit in those movies.

Conversely, I want a Boba Fett movie that takes place right after ROTJ, and ends long before episode VII. Have Fett make it out of the Sarlaac and have an asskicking adventure. Leave his story open at the end. Then in the ST have Oscar Isaac's character turn out to be Boba Fett's son. They could do a whole thing where Isaac falls for Han and Leia's daughter and Han doesn't want him near her because of who his dad is/was.

                      • MakingStarWars.net's source covers a variety of topics so let's jump in. First off they reiterate that Luke Skywalker is missing, but he has only been missing for ten years (not the the full thirty year between Jedi and VII, as some sites reported). Like I said, this is something we've heard before, but every source that corroborates a story leads us closer to the truth.

Here's where things get a little more exciting. Yesterday some set pics featuring Rebel/Republic soldiers leaked. Apparently this was not the first time the source saw these soldiers. According to the source, these soldiers are also seen in a piece of concept art that features Leia talking to a group of Hutts! The soldiers are flanking Leia in the art. The source describes the scene in the concept art by saying,"The picture looked as if (Leia) was having a meeting with (the Hutts). She certainly didn’t appear to be captive or under threat." We all know what happened the last time Leia met a Hutt, so it will be interesting to find out what would bring her back to them (possibly her job as leader of the Republic?)

Another thing the source brings up is the possibility of a direct connection to a character from the prequel trilogy. Apparently one the main characters from Episode VII is a descendant of Count Dooku! The source seems to be unsure of whether it's Gwendoline Christie's character or Adam Driver's character but they do say, "Details and characters might have changed but the idea of an aristocratic villain with a heritage going back to the Clone Wars has been there from pre-production and as far as I know it’s still a major part of the story." As a huge fan of the prequels I must say this really excites me. Dooku is one of those characters that is very shrouded in mystery and one I would like to learn more about, and this might be a way to do so in the sequels.

Speaking of Sith Lords, apparently the Sith homeworld of Moraband will be appearing in Episode VII! The source says, "The Sith homeworld is in the movie. It’s been there throughout production with various names attached to it. I had it confirmed to me by someone working in England that there are sets for the ‘Sith world’." Again, this is something we've heard before, but it's always nice to get another source. Moraband was, of course, explored in season six of The Clone Wars, but it would be interesting to see in live action form.

And lastly, there's the issue of the name of Daisy Ridley's character. Based on previous rumors, we've been assuming that her name is Kira. While this is still a safe bet, it may not be as safe as we once thought. According to the source, "Her character WAS referred to as Kira during pre-production but also at times, Kera, Sera and Fawn." Interesting. I must say that, of the options give, Kira is still my favourite. It will be interesting to see when and how these new characters names are revealed (during a panel at Celebration Anaheim is my preferred choice!)

As always these are just rumors until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney

I don't understand how you can think that way and still read superhero comics.

Well, I don't think it with everything. I think it with things that have a defined arc and conclusion. See, I don't mind that say Star Trek has gone on forever and can go on forever because by its nature it was episodic. But something like Harry Potter or, in this case, Star Wars, had a stated arc and definable goal. Lucas said years ago the whole story was about the fall and redemption of Anakin. So, it doesn't bother me with comics because they've never suggested that if Hal just beat Sinestro everything will be accomplished and the universe will be in balance.

                            • James Bond in Episode VII?

                              The name's Solo, Han Solo.

Or something like that. The British tabloid 'The Sun' is reporting a new rumor that current James Bond actor Daniel Craig requested, and was granted, a secret cameo in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII.

                              According to the Sun's source,
"Daniel asked for some sort of secret cameo role - and was happy to have his name left off the posters. Fans will love trying to work out which covered up character is him."

It's worth pointing out that The Sun does not have a very good track record when it comes to rumors. That being said, it would be cool to have Craig in the film. Based on the report it sounds like he'll be wearing a mask (or helmet?) of some sort. Like the source, I do think it would be a nice Easter Egg to say, "You see that stormtrooper? Yeah, that's James Bond."

This wouldn't be the only first James Bond connection to Episode VII. Actor Max Von Sydow played the role of Blofeld in Never Say Never Again. Another Bond related rumor from a while back was that Dame Judi Dench (Craig's co-star in Skyfall, Quantum of Solace, and Casino Royale) would be playing Mon Mothma in Episode VII, but I think we can file that one in the false category.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

                              • He is not in the movie. The 007 soundstage is there and they are prepping for Bond 24. He just made a visit is all. I would too if I were him.
