  • ^I'll be interested in the report from you guys who see it first night/weekend. Although I'd still say it's an unnecessary part of the story, because it's a prequel and doesn't attack my RoTJ happy ending, I'm not opposed to it like I am with the sequels. And some of the actors (like Yen and Whitaker) add extra incentive. I'm seriously thinking of seeing this one in theater. But I want to wait for the crowds to die down.

      • Here's Cinemassacre's spoiler-free review (which was basically "okay"):

just found out something interesting: according to this, it seems that Fox had so little faith in SW, they let Lucas keep the licensing and merchandising rights for himself in exchange for his $500k directors fee.

man, Im sure those fools were writhing in their chairs w/great anger when they saw how much bank he pulled in off of the Kenner toys.........

            • And Stuckman's spoiler-free review (a little more positive than James and Mike, but he didn't fully love it either):

personally, its NOT worth rushing out to see, however it DOES have some impressive (and fuck, I mean REALLY impressive) cameos. the main character & the main villain do not impress, but most of the others we're introduced to (like Chirrut Îmwe, the blind Force sensitive dude) will likely keep yur attention up.

gotta admit tho: "the Fight" ended up being a nice & big one; I was pleased w/that atleast.

                • I just saw it in imax. My initial reaction? That it was really good. Not great, but well done and enjoyable. It's pretty much a prequel for ANH. I liked that it was a stand alone story with no risk of sequels of its own; it was free to tell it's own story and take some risks. I think most of them paid off.

Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

One does not schedule Star Wars around their life, one schedules their life around Star Wars!

That's for real Star Wars, but real Star Wars ended in 1983. This stuff is just the runoff.

                          • I loved Rogue One. It's a great addition to the Star Wars mythology. I feel it enhances A New Hope and I felt a great desire to see the original Star Wars immediately after watching Rogue One.

No Jedi, no problem. I can't wait to see this movie again.

That's the most positive response I've heard, which is cool (on the other hand, the worst I've heard so far is "meh," not "horrible").

Did you watch ANH again afterward?

My mother (who knows I'm a fan of the actor) just sent me an article [light spoiler] about the digitally-inserted Peter Cushing stuff, which has me curious. I hadn't heard they were doing that (not that I heard a whole lot about this movie).
