  • It appears that the "Mace Windu is Snoke" theory is gaining steam. While not completely far-fetched, it is in the realm of possibilities.

That's pretty interesting, actually, and the theories are relatively sound, although what intrigues me most is the notion that Ray could be Palpatine's granddaughter.

                  • Finally the title! This will tide me over for a bit. I like it too!

For a while I was worried it would be something like Attack Of The First Order or something completely predictable. I'm hoping this movie moves the story in a direction that isn't guilty of being another remake.

                    • "Attack of the First Order" would have been horrible. As for "The Last Jedi," I'm okay with it, but it does open up questions as to what do that mean. Does that refer to Luke or Rey as the Last Jedi. We know in "Return of the Jedi" Yoda said to Luke, "when I am gone, the last of the Jedi you will be." We know Kylo Ren and his knights of Ren made sure Luke was the last of the Jedi by the start of Episode VII.

I'll be watching the usual nerd YouTube channels to get reactions to the title.

                      • I'm looking at "The Last Jedi" as being like "The Last Samurai". I don't know if we are all going to look at the title and try too hard to interpret inner meanings for it, or if deeper layers really are there for us to dissect after the fact. To me, the fact that you can derive so many meanings out of it tells me to just let it be and not worry about it too much.

Luke is the last of the Jedi...for now.

                        • He's been the Last Jedi for 30 years (having not yet seen Awakens, I'm not going to argue Rey's status). Personally, I'm hoping the title is far from indicative of the Jedi being kept near-extinct, because

                          1) That would be fucking stupid since the Force would be pretty much unbalanced

                          2) It demeans the character of Luke to turn him into a sad imitation of Kenobi

I want to see new stories, not do-overs of old ones.

They've already retconned away any meaning of the prophecy with TFA. It clearly meant before this that the Sith were wiped out forever and would no longer be a drain on the Force. But since there is a new Sith now (and pretty much every good thing achieved in RoTJ is pissed on), it doesn't apply anymore. Apparently, now "balance to the force" just meant a twenty year hiatus on the Sith (despite the fact that there was a thousand year hiatus in the past that didn't fulfill the prophecy!).

Well, it's clear that you haven't seen The Force Awakens, as Luke wasn't the last Jedi for 30 years. In the TFA, it is referenced that Luke started a new Jedi Temple, which was destroyed by Kylo and the Knights of Ren, Force users but neither Sith or Jedi, so that's something new.

And to get my Star Wars geek on...

                                1) "The Prophecy" is ambiguous, and thus it is never clearly defined to the meaning "balance to the Force." There are many theories, and there's one that I particularly like and it does NOT mean the extinction of the Sith. Moreover, "the Prophecy" or "balance to the Force" is NOT a underlying theme of The Force Awakens.

                                2) Luke is not a sad imitation of Kenobi; it's one of the central hallmarks of the Star Wars saga and that's a Master and apprentice, which is a strong feature in the Rebels animated series. And admitting you never seen The Force Awakens, your opinion of the film, to quote Yoda, is "only what you take with you.” Which by all accounts is full of prejudice and bias.

The Force Awakens may have same plot points as A New Hope, but the details and overall plot will lead to a different story.

And at the base of any Star Wars story is the battle between good and evil.

The prequels was a new story, tone and direction and it's considered the worse in the franchise.

I did not see this in TFA. Besides, many believe that "The Prophecy" was fulfilled in Return of the Jedi, when Anakin, the Chosen One, killed the Emperor and thus bringing balance to the Force. So, if you believe "The Prophecy" was fulfilled, then TFA really didn't retcon it.

With the new comics and books being canon of the Star Wars mythos, there's something I'm sure will come into play into the new trilogy and that's force trees. See "Star Wars: Shattered Empire."

The think tank at Lucasfilm is creating a new Star Wars universe and there are a great many things to be revealed.
