  • August 20 – Best or favorite comic book character origin story

Of course the GL fan in me wants to say Hal and that's a great origin, but honestly, nothing beats Superman's origins:

Love and sacrifice of a child; loving adoption, planetary disaster, rocket ship, and godlike superpowers!

    (1) I always dislike (or at least feel uncomfortable during) stories where heroes are framed. (2) I don't like when the hero team is fighting amongst itself. [So, I also didn't like Age of Ultron.] (3) I hated Bucky as the baddie. He looks like an Emo singer. That hair is ridiculous for any soldier to wear (and I wasn't thrilled with the costume either) and he was just annoying. All these little things added up and just put me in a bad mood the whole time I watched it.

          • August 14 – If you were to write a super hero comic book, would it be a solo hero or a team book?

If I ever got the chance to write one super hero comic book, it would be a solo Green Lantern title starring Hal Jordan.

            • Also, I'm reading the rest of your posts as I play catch up on this thread. I stayed out of it while on vacation and only hit a few others all week.

This is a really good question and a really tough one. If I had access to my laptop I could re-post pix, but they are in my collection thread. Off the top of my head and in no particular order, I'd say

-My custom-made GL Rebirth light switch.
That's a cool item. Always like seeing or hearing about custom ideas for GL fans.

                    1. I know it's more than one thing, but I consider it a full set; all 22 pre-Crisis members of the JSA, complete with alternate costumes. This took a while, as both DCD and Mattel's DCUC lines ended without finishing, so I got this done via my friend who is my custom hookup. Every character is specific to how I wanted them as having been actual members, including some fixes he did for me on existing figures. I love this shelf!

                    2. My full size Hal Jordan power battery prop rom DCDirect. The first one they did.

                    3. My 18" Hal Jordan statue that has C'Hp at his side on a moon. It's just gorgeous.

                    4. My custom Sword Of The Atom DCUC figure riding his frog. It's the centerpiece of my Atom shrine.

                    5. My full size, DCDirect Swamp Thing statue. It's so beautiful.

                    • August 16 – When or if you go to the theater to watch a movie based on a superhero, do you wear a t-shirt, hat, etc of said character? (Ya know, like sports fans do when they go to a sporting event, whether it be a jersey, hat, etc.)

I do if it's a pet favorite of mine. For instance, on opening day for Green Lantern, I wore a GL shirt to represent.

For properties like Deadpool, X Men, or Guardians Of The Galaxy that I have zero sentimental attachment to, I don't do anything. For those, I'll typically wear a nerdy shirt advertising my love of something else, like Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad or Star Wars.

Sadly, I don't see myself even WANTING to see The Flash movie in the theater on opening day...

                      • August 17 – Short box or long box? Why?

I have a few short boxes, but mostly prefer longboxes. The reason is over time I segregated most of my collection by property in their own boxes. Most of these longboxes are needed. I can keep Neil Gaiman's Sandman run in a shortbox by itself, but most of my favorites are at anywhere from 1 to 7 longboxes.

It's mostly a pain in the butt when a collection gets too much for a longbox, but not enough for two. The for a few years I have to swap out something that was I a short box to give it to the other title for a while. I've had to do that a LOT of times over the years for Swampy, Doom Patrol, Green Arrow, Shazam ad some others. Bugs the crap out of me.

But in a perfect world, longboxes are better because they hold more of a collection, and none of my collections are small anymore.

                        • August 18 – Do you have comic books hanging on a wall in your home? If so, what are they and why did you decide to display them? Pics would be cool.

Not for years. There was a time that I had a few golden age issues hanging on the wall, but space in my comic room has become too valuable to be able to put up comics or posters anymore.

                          • August 19 – The top five worse comic book films

These are off the top of my head. I've seen these:

                            1. Ghost Rider 2. Far and away, the worst piece of garbage related to comic books I ever saw in a theater. The ONLY reason I didn't walk out is my family was with me. This movie is complete fecal matter. The first Ghost Rider movie I found passable in that I didn't regret seeing it after. Ghost Rider 2 was poorly shot ad edited, with this shaky cam trick that irritated me after 2 minutes of it.

                            2. Batman And Robin. Saw THAT turd in a theater back in the day, and I'm STILL mad at myself for seeing it.

                            3. Daredevil. My wife and I went to the lobby during this movie to decide if we wanted to leave or not. My childhood love of DD was the only thing that got me to go back inside to finish it. I never saw it a second time.

                            4. Superman IV. I hate to shit on that series, but III and IV are pretty bad. III saves itself by being so bad it's good enough to have some laughs to redeem it. The Quest For Peace has no such redeeming value. It was the model for what a bad comic book movie was until the modern age kicked in a few years ago.

                            5. Catwoman. I haven't been able to sit through the whole movie, but I've seen enough bits and pieces of it on tv that I feel no shame for adding it to my list.

                            • August 20 – Best or favorite comic book character origin story

I'm going with my favorite, maybe not what I think is the best origin in comics, but what means the most to me. Hal Jordan, test pilot yanked away while I a simulator at work and brought to the side of a dying alien in a crashed ship. Told he was chosen to be an intergalactic cop ad given the most powerful weapon in the universe.

My lord, what a FANTASTIC origin to read as a kid! That could happen to anyone at any time, if they were worthy enough to be chosen!

I think Hal has the best origin of any of the human GLs for use in translating to live action or animation. IMO, Alan Scott has the second best, whereas all the other 5 humans' origins aren't useable onscreen the way they were originally told.
