Too bad, George Lucas owns Star Wars. There is nothing you can do about it, but hey I get the joke. Just warning you, us guys really don't have any power in these kinds of things, no matter how many times we wine and cry about it.

There is an argument (and this is where the Star Wars "purists" are) that once a work of art is out there for the public it is out of the creator's hands. It belongs to the fans/consumers. Tolkien believed this. George Lucas, JK Rowling, and others do not.

Lucky for his future self it failed, I guess, as it would have prevented some of what he's doing now, made some of it problematic, and required him to provide the consumers with the unaltered originals in any case, which he steadfastly refuses to do.

I'm not touching this. In 6 months, they'll probably come out with a super, spectacular 3D edition. I'm sick of it. I have the regular DVD set and for now, that's good enough for me.

Too bad the King of England owns The Colonies. There's nothing you can do about it, but hey we get the joke. Just warning you, us guys really don't have any power in these kinds of things, no matter how many times we wine and cry about it.

Originally posted by Mister Ed View PostGeorge Lucas USED to believe this, too. He lobbied Congress for legislation, back in '88, that would have forbidden altering films without the director's permission (so a dead director means the film is locked in), and REQUIRED, if changes WERE made, that the original version MUST still be made available for purchase.

Lucas has deemed himself the auteur that can define, and redefine, and redefine, AND redefine the trilogy until he alone is satisfied. Much to the contempt of fans, but continuing to tinker with something that fans are so clearly passionate about isn't even an issue, because Lucas unashamedly refuses to acknowledge that they have any part in it.
