I think this is a good time to bring up where this series is going, if the first film succeeds in a big way.
I think they should focus on Sinestro & not Parallax as series villain. I don't want to see Hal go bad. It was a terrible mistake by the DC editorial staff in the lost-at-sea comic book era of the 1990's. Just about everyone hated it. Let's not enshrine it!
We have a great protagonist in Hal and a great antagonist in Sinestro. I'd like to see the filmmakers focus on that so we can get some real emotion when Sinestro's principles and neuroses cause him to split from the Corps; and so the effect of their dissolving friendship on Hal can be explored. It's a rare opportunity for depth in a superhero movie. If they go the Superman 3 / Spiderman 3 route, I fear they'll come up empty.
Seriously, they have the likes of John Broome, Denny Oneil, Steve Englehart, Len Wien, Alan Moore, Judd Winnick and Geoff Johns to draw stories & ideas from: and they're gonna go to Ron Marz?!?! No offense to Marz but he was never in that league! It makes no sense to me.
I'd really love to see the writers go to V2 1959-1969 for ideas: those stories are truly imaginative & wonderful! The V2 GLC comic was also rich in original ideas & concepts. I'd love to see Green Arrow as a support character in later films!
The first few issues of the Oneil/Adams run provide some nice story ideas, especially for humanizing Ganthet; his trek across America with Hal would make a nice subplot for the second film, something in the middle that can be woven around the major plotline. With the way things are going in the U.S. right now, and seeing how GL2 would be coming out around presidential election time, that could be very timely & effective. There's also Qward, the other Lantern Corps and the Alan Moore mythos to be explored. Personally, I can't think of a better story to base GL3 on than V2 issues 222-224!
Just some ideas for places the creative team can go for good ideas. They don't have to stick to the recent reboot. There's a vast store of material to draw from, just as Geoff Johns does in his comics!
Just my .02c!
