    You're 100% right.

You've already been corrected (Thanks Lantern A-Train!)

Hal not using his ring or demonstrating his will power is a crime I cannot look past.
      Spot. Fucking. On.

Even though you're insanely wrong about Star Wars.... I love your analysis of Green Lantern and the movie.

Doesn't change the fact that the setting is futuristic.

That said, I agree that Star Wars is Space Opera.

LOL I was joking honestly I dont care what genre it is in. I put it in my own genre and that's good movie.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

What matters is that it's not Earth, not humans and therefore the era it's set in is irrelevant. It might as well be contemporary because it's NOT US.

The era is irrelevant to whether it is SF or not, anyway. As is the question of whether it involves humans. SF can include only alien races and still be SF. SF can take place long before life arose on Earth and still be SF. I'm at a loss as to how anybody would seriously think that mere technicalities like stated era and names of species would really define the genre (especially in a case like Star Wars where the stated era is mere set dressing, and the characters are most likely viewed as human by the vast majority of the audience).

The reason Star Wars is not SF, IMHO, has nothing to do with those things, and much more to do with the fact that there is no real attempt to actually incorporate scientific concepts into the technological set-dressing or the development of the various societies and groups.

I think there has to be some reasonable expectation that the society being portrayed has significant parallels to modern human society.

                      I completely agree.

Nowhere. I just like saying it.

                        My point exactly.

Also isn't it a bit telling that it's more fun to bring up an old topic than talk about the GL movie?

If Star Wars isn't science fiction, neither is Green Lantern.

                            Instead of Guardians, old wizards.

Instead of Green Lanterns, emerald knights.

Instead of rings, they could have magic wands.

Instead of aliens, they could troll, orcs, elves and hobbits.

Instead of space, it could Middle Earth.

GL is more fantasy than sci-fi. Same with Star Wars
