GL fans hate-n on a GL

pure n simple, i hate the character of john stewart ... a dead tree with fungus growing off it has more personality than john stewart ... however, even if i liked stewart, i still wouldn't want to see him in the jla movie as a founding member, because he wasn't there at the formation of the jla ... i'm too much of a traditionalist when it comes to jla and glc ...

Actually I'm talking about both of you. This is a MB is supposed to highlight all GLs yet both moderaters are both Hal fans who dislike a particlar GL ( John in this case) when he finially gets some attention from non-comic fans instead of Hal. Kinda giving a bad message to John fans you think.

if mention of hal and the corps isn't made in the film, i certainly won't be spending my money on the movie ticket or dvd for jla ... not mentioning the fact that hal was a founding member of jla is a crime ... it'd be like the writers telling all us true diehard fans to duck off ... ya know ???

I never saw it,but did they say the JLA movie is supposed to be based on the original JLA?cause if's that's the case then yes I would hve has my vote for hal.But this just seems like a straight up movie far as i'm concerned.

It has been the rumor that it will be an orgin movie of the JLA, us die hards want an orgin movie that at least has the right people in it. Those would be the guys on the cover of B&B fighting Starro, there is no SuperBat , no Wally and no John on that cover

if they bill the film as an alternate reality version of the formation of jla, then i guess i have no choice and must be cool with that, but if they try to pull the whole ultimate jla origin crap, then i'm gonna send my kittens to claw up the writer's feet while they try to sleep ...

for the record, i like elseworld's stories, but i actually spoke to a kid a few weeks ago ... he came into the store wearing a green lantern symbol tshirt ... the kid didn't even know that there are/were many GLs ... i asked if he read the green lantern comic ... he told me that in the past 5 years the comic wasn't about john stewart, and that he was confused as to why ...

I don't get that sense at all, and don't accuse me of being a kiss-ass, cuz I think I have butted heads and disagreed with ALL the mods here at one point or another.

My answer: John is the staple of the JL that shitloads of kids have grown up with, becuase Hal was never a member of the JL in more than one episode of the cartoon, (which most non geeks think is the real deal, and for THEM, it is). What can you do? Would I want John starring in the JL movie, not my first choice, but that's what were getting, so we need to deal with it

I do see what your saying, but I agree whole heartedly with the opinion that John is probably the least fleshed out GL of them all. Guy might have less appearances than John in the overall scheme of the things, but we definitely have a bead on his whole personality. John was the answer to the Great White Superhero at a time when there was nothing else, and yes I'm glad he's around, but I also think he never grew past the angry black man thing. Even when he got married, went a little coo-coo, got better, ran the Mosaic, and almost to this day, that presence as the hurt hero still pervases his appearances. Look at the retarded dialog we have seen in a couple of issues of SCW. Someone needs to take John by the horns and steer him down a road and flesh him out alot more. Hopefully for the John fans, the movie will express more interest in him and you will see a much more complex character afterwards, but here's holding my breath

I dunno... to be honest... I think most of the mods have expressed a blunt distaste for the decision... and I know at least us two have expressed blunt opinions about the character of John Stewart that could be construed as hate... the fact is that niether of us hate him, though, so we might as well let them know such, since its obviously somewhat of an issue.

Really shouldnt be an issue though.He's a GL just like the rest.Except he's African American

I think it's giving a very bad message especially to the kids who watch the JLA cartoon.
