Another reasons I like the "not everyone can use the ring" retcon-
Any hero can lift Captain America's shield...and a handful can use it like a weapons, of them maybe 2 or 3 can use it anywhere near as good as Hal can.
I think even if you found Stark's armor, you shouldnt be able to operate it automatically.
Len Wein in an interview said Wolverine was originally designed to be a guy with claws in his glove...until Wein pointed out "that means anyone can put on the gloves and be Wolverine..." think of how much more unique Logan is by having built in claws?
Not everyone can lift THor's hammer...
Geoff's retcon made the GL ring a bit more special again.
