  • With the Flash and GL..... They'd do a lot better if we didn't see the same villains and the same storylines written and rewritten to death. How many times has a Reverse Flash been used in the Flash? How many stories have we read now in GL that tie into the other Corps and the War of Light? Give us something NEW, and give us something FRESH. Don't give the fans convoluted stories that propose more questions with very little in terms of answers.

You know what would've been nice to see in the Flash? A story getting into the mind of Barry or Capt. Cold when the villain became a member of the League along with Luthor. Would have loved to see something on it. I'm sure in JL fans probably got a word bubble or three within twenty pages and that was it. Something SHOULD have been in the Flash regarding the plot twist.

For GL? Just use a villain that isn't among the rainbow Corps, maybe give Hal some downtime on Earth, etc. Dr. Polaris, Tattooed Man, and Goldface all come to mind. It's really getting out of hand these days and seems like they're taking the better stories and then reimagining them and doing them over and over to the point of exaustion. Does anybody REALLY wanna see GL vol. 4 retold with a new pair of Lanterns? I sure as hell don't...

I've been digging TH and I'm not even a TT fan. Sure, it doesn't have the whole lineup, but it's an interesting story.

Oh it is as good as we are going to get, so I am happy for it but it isn't quite what the people want. Sort of like the Legion reboots, after the first one. They knew what the people wanted but never gave the people what they wanted but tried to come close. If you know the people want something give it to them instead of a weaker facsimile. For me Titan's hunt is for the Titan's fans that Teen Titans doesn't do it for, they long for the Wolfman Titans, but instead of giving them that it is teased and is close but isn't quite it. This won't satisfy the fans totally so why tease em?

        • I wonder how long it will take them to give a Hawkman ongoing another try? It never sells as well as GL or Flash, but it is another go to title closer to Aquaman status.

Marvel's films and TV/Netflix content seems to boost their counterparts' comic sales. That hasn't been the case with Supergirl, Flash, and Arrow.

It is getting revamped come September for Rebirth

Then just do classic JSA stories set in WWII, and another JSA book in modern times with their descendants.
It would have to be an Earth One or Multiversity Too (if that actually becomes a thing) book then, if it's ongoing they're gunna drag it into stuff.

Look at the March and April comic sales. Flash and Green Arrow are getting outsold by Spider-man's supporting cast and the Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, look at the top twenty sales per month and see how many of them are DC-based. It's a small percentage.

                      • Looking at the sales for the 3 remaining GL spinoff titles (Sinestro, Omega Men, and the EoO, all 3 needed to be cancelled whether DC was rebooting or not. The big Rebirth reboot is just coming at a good time because none of those titles were making it.

GL itself needed a shot in the arm, settling in the low 30K range, and apparently DC feels a new #1 with the same writer will do the trick. We'll see.

                        • The decision to keep Venditti writing is quite possibly the most mysterious thing ever. The only thing that may trump that is if Tan was still drawing. I think his books may have gotten decent-ish reviews on some websites, but pretty much no one I have seen in fan circles has really liked his work... well, actually, I can think of one guy. But I think it is safe to say that a consensus has settled in that Venditti is not very good.

The entire Green Lantern line collapsed under his tenure, and while that may not entirely be his fault, the Green Lantern book went from selling quite a bit to just staying above the 20,000s. I can't see any real victories here, unless DC views it as a big success that Green Lantern stayed out of cancellation range.

This seemed like the absolute perfect time to switch writers. When things don't add up at this level, it makes me wonder if he has some really great backstage connections. What's interesting to me, is that I think all the other writers that worked on GL books when Venditti started--Jensen, Jordan, and Soule--are all better by a decent margin, and it's Robert Venditti who is the last one standing, and who is STILL standing.

As for how well the upcoming book will do, I don't suspect it will do especially great sales wise. It's a samey storyline--Hal Jordan fights Sinestro--with a writer people haven't responded to well. I think the biggest draw, other than the characters, will probably be Ethan Van Sciver, and I don't think he has a lot of sale power when not teamed with a big name writer, if Edge of Oblivion is anything to go by. I think this book will be bought primarily by loyal Green Lantern fans and not that many other people will be that interested in experimenting and seeing whether they want to come on board. Because it doesn't seem like there is anything especially fresh or captivating to see here. Honestly, I think the other Green Lanterns book will pique more peoples' interests, because if they weren't big on Green Lantern before, they may be willing to give these new characters a shot. Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps looks like the same old thing, so I think only the same old people will buy it.

                          • IMO, Green Lanterns will probably sell very well the first several issues because it's a new title that seemingly offers something new in the cast. But that will get old very fast when readers figure out it's just two jobber Green Lanterns fighting the rainbow brigade every month. It'll start somewhere around 36k a month and by #12 it will be at about 20k.

HJ&TGLC will fare better because it has the real heroes in it, and the real villains.

                            • My impression of Venditti is that his ideas sound good on paper, but don't pay off. Like the broad strokes of Hal being the hidden martyr, going rogue, and learning an experimental ringlike weapon all have real potential, but he just doesn't sell it page by page. Mind you, I don't hate him like some do here, but I don't love him either and I would have been happy with a full shakeup.

That's a good evaluation. He should probably plot stories and have a partner who writes them for him. Maybe someone like Beau Smith, who has a good ear for dialogue and does good characterizations.

Although Hal's going rogue was a very dog-eared idea. I blame that on his not doing his homework by reading the back issues and seeing how many times it had been done already.
