welllllll, its not like Fisher is doing much of anything at the moment, and IIRC she *was* @ NYCC this year; didnt she used to shun those? guess times have changed.........or, perhaps her therapist recommended doing it to keep her from going back in the bottle.

            /shrug

also, lets be clear: Dizney doesnt market to kids. they market to the The Family Unit. its easy to put something up on a tv-screen and some dopey kids wants it.......but when U can make a pitch to the Adult who actually controls the finances in household, ya dont just have 1 customer, but their spouse and/or the children too.

MUCH bigger payday coming in then.

                  Are we seriously discussing this?

Disney.... a company that markets almost exclusively to stupid impressionable youth is going to pass up an opportunity to make a trilogy with young fresh marketable stars so that they can cast a handful of actors in their 50s 60s and dear God Harrison Ford is SEVENTY YEARS OLD....

Why? To sell tickets to a handful of nerds who have already promised 10% of their income to the franchise til they die anyway????

                  Stop it.

                  Just stop it.

                  Cameos? Maybe.....

Star Wars sequels STARRING Fisher, Hamill and Ford???????

                  You all sound like Tazz...

Oh my God, YES!!! And Disney is already evil so it works perfectly!

This is pretty much where I'm at with this, in-between the pants-shitting terror and unbridaled joy. Lucas was barely an influence anymore, and the idea of a Star Wars run by a machine where efficiency is key and everything is fast-tracked both scares and excites me.

Fox Retain Rights To All Existing Star Wars Films
The new Disney deal with Lucasfilm doesn’t include the distribution rights to the pre-existing Star Wars films, all of which will remain with Fox. I assume that includes the Star Wars Holiday Special. In fact, Lucas’ deal with Fox doesn’t look to change in any way, so don’t go getting your hopes up for pristine Blu-ray editions of the original trilogy in their original versions – it’s really not likely to happen at all. The Lucas-Fox pact will have Han shooting second at least until… well, at least until somebody other than George Lucas is making the big decisions. Not to get morbid, but I remember what it took for Stanley Kubrick‘s Clockwork Orange to get “unbanned” in the UK, and that was Kubrick passing away.

Distribution rights to the upcoming films will sit entirely with Disney. This means that any future complete edition boxset will require some kind of deal making by both studios, though that “full set” concept seems to have lost a lot of currency tonight with the promise of new Star Wars every couple-few years for generations to come.
Disney’s Iger: Three New ‘Star Wars’ Movies Mapped Out; TV Plans Too
“We really like Star Wars’ potential on TV, and Disney XD would be a great home for that.” He did not provide any more details about future Stars Wars TV shows.
Disney buying 'Star Wars' maker Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion
"We're going to concentrate on the 'Star Wars' franchise," said Iger, who added that as part of the deal, Disney is acquiring an "extensive and detailed treatment" or story outline for the next three films in the series.

Wow, I don't know how I feel about this. It's about as shocking as when Disney brought Marvel. I'll wait and see how this goes before I judge it but I'm hoping for the best.

This is sounding less and less promising. So we're still stuck with Lucas being a roadblock to the original theatrical editions, and the next three films will be based on Lucas' story treatments, with a faithful Lucas lieutenant at the reins of Lucasfilm, and with George looking over her shoulder and adding his "creative consultant" input the whole way. So any promise of positive change due to this development is SEVERELY muted, IMHO.
