The Sith have the ability to mask their abilities due to their training.
Additionally the Jedi order wasn't really that strong anymore because they had no common enemy, no clear goal and were content with not involving themselves with anything much. They still obeyed the Senate but didn't really bother fighting corruption within the Republic. They were divided within their order about their actual goals (which is how Palpatine was able to draw Dooku to the Dark Side).

Also Palpatine and Hego Damask were mostly scheming in the background via Trade Federation and the InterGalactic Banking Clan. They destabilized the outer rims and because the Republic didn't have an army the outer rims created mercenary armies.
This is also the reason why nobody noticed how Plagueis created the first (not very successful) Yinchorri clone army (which was defeated by the Jedi very quickly) and Count Dooku creating the Jango Fett clone army.
Okay, if the Sith are trained to mask their abilities, that makes sense. Thing is, didn't Yoda sense the dark side in Dooku? Perhaps Sideous didn't train him too well.

Tazz, we are NOT going to get used to it. You have been told numerous times to pipe down on your explicit grossness and disgusting remarks. It's like I can't go to any damn thread in this forum anymore without seeing something nasty from you, whether its "licking vagina", Ion's hooker having Ebola, or even this thread.

I took you on as my little bro, and I'm telling you now-knock it off.

While everything that you guys are pointing out is 100% true according to the novel Darth Plagueis, none of it holds weight with the movies, and trust me, I'll be the first one to tell you THAT SUCKS because it should be canon. That was such a great novel and did explain a lot to me about the Sith, but now Lucas/Disney said it's all an "alt-universe" thing or whatever.

Tazz, you need to take it back a notch. We're loose with the threads, but you're just derailing them.

          • I watched the first couple episodes of Rebels and found myself enjoying them more than the Clone Wars, probably because I got Anakin Skywalker and Clone Trooper fatigue.

Dooku left the Jedi Order only after Sideous already knew of Anakin (and after Maul presumably killed) and didn't fully train Dooku as he had already chosen Anakin as his true apprentice.

                    • Dooku was only a band aid that Palpatine needed to last until Anakin was ready. I loved how happy he was to cast him aside when the time came. That Darth Sidious is ruthless baby!

The fact that we know Vader wanted Luke to kill Palpatine and Palpatine wanted him to kill Vader plus the hint about Plageus in Ep.. 3 (which the books apparently expanded on), has led me to believe that a Sith killing another is basically a rite of passage.

Yes, this was introduced by Darth Bane, however Darth Tenebrous and Plageous tried to change this status quo (and failed obviously ).

                          • I like that Sidious killed his master, and the idea that the pupil would do so as a rite of passage is a pretty cool way to complete a cycle.

And if you're weak, the master can kill you and find a better apprentice, like Sidious wanted to do with Luke replacing Vader. Sidious basically wanted to prolong his life at the top of the master/apprentice dynamic as long as possible (a typical Sith trait), and kept trading in his apprentices along the way.

Ironic that in the end, Sidious' apprentice turned on him not for selfish, inward looking reasons, but to help someone other than himself, thus ending the cycle.

                            • In Star Wars IV (a New Hope), why did Kenobi's lightsaber (seem to) fail in the duel against Vader? I've read several theories from poor video technology (at the time) to his saber was running out of power cells. Just want to see what everyone else's take is on that.

                              • I'm pretty sure it was an effects fail. The times that it seemed to fail were when the blade would have been pointing straight at the camera, or at least that was my impression. Maybe they weren't willing to reshoot to avoid the issue, but the way they created the glowing lightsaber effect didn't work well dead on. I feel like at those times you can still see a glowing dot, it just doesn't look like a saber...

Been a while, though, so I may be misremembering...
