  • Chappie (2015)

"Surely you can go & count your narcotics in another room."

Really liked this South African robot drama.

    Blown (2005)

"It's like you gave some four year-olds some cameras."

Horrible made-in-some-dude's-garage-type horror comedy. Has tons of filler including a frame that narrates scenes they didn't get around to filming and a tutorial on eBay selling (this actually runs after the slow-moving credits and accounts for about 22 of 87-minute run time).
The story had potential for a fun one---a voodoo neighbor curses a blow-up doll to get revenge on a bachelor party--but besides one or two gags, it didn't pay off.

    • Cry-Baby (1990)

"Let Jesus Christ be your gang leader!"

Saw this ages ago, Space Cop watched it recently and I hunted up a copy of the director's cut.

Gotta say it was a good laugh at the old squares/drapes culture clash of the 1950s. Seeing some of those classic cars, the clique fashion of the drapes, those rockabilly songs.

And shit, the making of was incredibly fascinating. A huge portion of the cast and crew all sharing their arrest stories, the feds wanting to get their hands on Traci Lords, Waters growing up with dreams of being a greaser/drape, it was really enthralling to hear.

Of course I have to watch Hairspray now.

Yep. It was a fun one. I'm listening to the commentary for Pecker now.

I was hoping one of the local libraries would have it, but they only have the recent one based off the musical, which Waters didn't do.

What an excellent movie to produce such emotions in the viewer. I don't know if my eyes were getting glossy because of the ending, or because I was about to pass out and was fighting it. But yeah, the feels are heavy. Ensemble cast, superior action, and a few laughs make it a must see for any level of fan you might be. Too bad they couldn't borrow Deadpool for a bit.

"There's plenty to do. Plenty to do, so long as there's you and me and maybe some other people.

Road Warrior [aka Mad Max 2] (1981)

"I remember a time of chaos."

I wanted to see this again soon after re-watching Hondo because it occurred to me the other day that it was probably an influence. I haven't found anything officially supporting this (Miller has claimed multiple homages to classic westerns and samurai flicks in the series), but I did find someone else online who highlighted a similar scene (the tough kid who takes out a raider). The thought came to me because of the lone warrior who travels with a dog (compare some of the posters to see what I mean).

                "I'm putting together something special."

Better than I was expecting, though by no means great. They even threw in some John Woo style extraneous doves as an homage.

                Hud (1963)

"Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire. You're just going to have to make up your own mind one day about what's right and wrong."

This was pretty good, but so darn depressing.

I'm a married man with three children. I thought it would make me seem less married. All right, I didn't think it through, all right?"

"No telling when she'll find all the sealed-up vampires, and they'll go cavorting around naked, holding Black Mass, sucking up little babies' blood. Nothing evil they won't try or do."
