But seriously, I caught this on a TV at work and searched for "Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper" and now it finally arrived in the mail.
I think it's a little longer than it strictly needed to be but it is well made and has a decent plot, good actors in the cast. James Mason is enough like Nigel Bruce but with his own touches, and Plummer as Holmes was very good.
Having so many elements tied together (Jack's murder, the Masons, the Crown's affairs) was done pretty well. My dad thought it was a tad convoluted but I think it fits together well enough and my only real issue is the runtime.
Overall a decent film.

Surprisingly great martial arts dramedy, full of laughs, action, and emotion.
It was really unexpected, but there was a scene between the main protagonist and his son that seemingly managed to penetrate my soul and bring me to a full on sob, as it reminded me so much of my own father and some things he said to me when I was younger. Adding that to the context of the scene and I just lost it. Absolutely fantastic writing.
Highly recommended, especially if you have a background in martial arts.
Space Jam (1996)
"C'mon, Michael! It's game time! Get your Hanes on, lace up your Nikes, grab your Wheaties and your Gatorade, and we'll pick up a Big Mac on the way to the ballpark."
I did not watch this for the 25th anniversary (which isn't until November) nor in preparation for the sequel (I will wait until that's rentable on Netflix if ever) but because Hack the Movies covered it semi-recently and I wanted to re-watch it.
Here, I'll fix it with this actual 50th anniversary . . .
Night of Dark Shadows (1971)
"I don't know why, I almost feel I've come home again."
Second time viewing this, but I forgot that it bills Kate Jackson (who went on to play my favorite of Charlie's Angels) as "introducing."
Unlike the first feature, this uses very little of the story lines from the soap opera, though it does use the names and actors (most in different roles).
A lot of these cash-ins could actually be half-decent if they actually bothered trying rather than just slapping together random crap. I know they're just cheap, blatant cash grabs but even a modest effort could yield a better film and better returns.
Shit, if I could I'd remake half of them into something watchable.
Of course, I'd make them so damn tongue-in-cheek the laughter would hurt.
