Hate leads to suffering." Sinestro's views of emotions is in direct conflict with the Guardians, a constant theme in the Green Lantern mythos.

Will Power is the Force that defeats fear. It's the element that evokes courage; the power to fight instead of flee in the face of fear. Hal's Will power and ability to overcome is the reason he becomes the greatest of all the Lanterns. The universal appeal that Bolerathon notes above. That in the blackest night and the darkest hour, will power can become a beacon of light and overcome fear and desperation. This is a universal quality share by the greatest of heroes.

Hal not using his "Will Power" to defeat Parallax is akin to a Jedi not using the Force and Lightsaber to subdue an enemy. So say all you want about Thor, but at least he used his hammer to reach a final resolution.

Hal not using his ring or demonstrating his will power is a crime I cannot look past.
Well worded. This pretty much sums up how I feel about the story. There is also the matter of the piss poor acting, terrible editing, and terrible score.

I had planned to see this movie 3 times this past weekend, after watching it on Thursday at midnight, I cancelled my plans to see it again. Very dissapointing.

      Thanks!

To be honest, I pretty much wrote the same review of Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace. Anakin Skywalker, much like Hal Jordan was "The Chosen One." And going into the movie I wanted to see why; demonstrated. You know, something like King Aurthor pulling a sword out of a stone. But instead, I got some bullshit midichlorian count "that's even higher than Master Yoda." Moreover, the plot of The Phantom Menace was too convoluted in trying to setup the sequels and the pace of the film got bogged down in expositions, which are pretty much the criticisms of Green Lantern.

Yes, the other problem with Anakin in Episode I was that he was written on purpose to be too good, since Lucas wanted to prove evil doesn't start out that way. They missed golden opportunities to show why anger and emotion were something ingrained in him. In the Pod Race scene, when his engines crap out, that would have been a perfect opportunity for Anakin to get pissed and frustrated and then have his engines come back on, showing his dark side tendencies and that he could get what he wanted by giving into to anger.
"My mind is deluged with thoughts of Heaven and Hell,
Crime and Punishment, Damnation and Redemption. Hal
        Jordan... And The Spectre.

I'm dead, yet I live. I have no identity. Yet I know
who I am. And once again I've been given power enough
to change the world. This time, Lord...
        Let me be worthy."

You're not along in that thought. Actually, some people would have liked any kind of emotion from Anakin, thus the name Mannequin Skywalker. Instead Episode One is bogged down in expositions and forced and awkward moments between Anakin, his mom and Padme.

Id like to admend this somewat: Im rather happy that most of wat I didnt like in the 1st script was lost & still have no prob w/Johns being involved in the revisions..................but if it was *his idea* to have Hal state that being a GL made him afraid, then I think he should be called to task for that (and painfully, if I had my way.)
