3D in the right hands can be as revolutionary as color. It's a tool that can be used to craft a greater piece of art or can be used by any schmuck and not add anything at all.

The best hands I've seen it in are Cameron's and even after watching the 2D version on blu, I wasn't any less impressed by it...visually.Originally posted by TheGoatLantern View Post3D in the right hands can be as revolutionary as color. I touched on this in the long(er) post about 3D, but really, Fuck George Lucas.
I felt that sentiment needed a stand alone post. If I feel it deserves a thread I'll make one, haha.

Then you were already decided on the matter. I'm not here to change your mind. I think the movie and director 3D can add tremendously to the immersion into the world of the movie. As Cameron said "3D should make you feel as if you are looking out your window into the world of the movie" (paraphrasing of course).
She blinded me with SCIENCE!

I'm not denying that 3D in the hands of a great filmmaker could add to the experience. But, if we are using Cameron as the god of 3D, I wasn't noticeably impressed with the 3D version of Avatar over the 2D version.Originally posted by TheGoatLantern View PostThen you were already decided on the matter. Was Avatar visually entertaining and stunning in 3D? Yes. Did the 3D make it drastically better than the 2D counterpart? IMO, no.
I do like that you said the movie had to add to it. If it's a bad story, bad acting, bad characters, all the 3D in the world can't cover that up. I'll use Avatar again as the example. It's basically Pocahontas in space, or Dances With Wolves in space. Or as Plinkett said, Aliens + Titanic.I think the movie and director 3D can add tremendously
It's an overly done, recycled plot with pretty colors. The best quote of Avatar I have heard is from RLM, "For all the time and money spent making Avatar in 3D, the characters and story were still stuck in one dimension."
If you can get a movie with a great story and acting and a great director to do the 3D, you may have a movie that has a great visual style and the 3D adds to it, but both aspects of that have to be great.
And I've really kinda derailed this thread, sorry folks.Last edited by Parallax2814; 09-07-2011, 06:32 PM.

sigh... i will never understand why so many have treated this as though it was the worst superhero film ever.I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.
