It has to me, for specific characters. I like the fact Brand and Aquaman's stories seem to be at a slow and steady pace. I think the inclusion of the Anti Monitor is a bit too soon, but hey, perhaps Monty is turning over a new leaf. I hope not, they already killed Doomsday's "wow factor" they dont need to do it to the fuckin' Anti Monitor.

i'd say it's building towards that tho, i might be factoring in johns' previous stuff, seein small seeds he planted and am just lovin that it's a huge slow down

I'm glad there's a difference of opinion on Brightest Day. Discussion is really not possible when opinions are homoegeneous.

Brightest Day is definitely taking baby steps, and it doesn't feature A-list characters so I can see why it's bumming people out. However, I don't mind. I just going on for the ride.

Exactly. Its a good story. Like what Millar did with Ultimate Cap- more story. More personal conflict.

yea, it seems to go back n forth, so far, on which characters are havin a better time in the light than others

possibly due to more (and some less) exposure from one issue to another

I thought Brightest Day #2 was an okay read. The problem with a series like this - with multiple narratives being juggled - is that you're inevitably going to find some storylines more interesting than others. For me, the standout right now is the Martian Manhunter story. I liked the emotion behind the scene with J'onn J'onzz and Dr. Erdel's daughter. But on the flipside - and I'm not usually one to complain about violence in comics - I felt the scene with White Martian lady mutilating her family was a bit much. Not only was it a rehash of what happened with Black Manta last issue, but it just felt like nastiness for nastiness's sake.

At this point, I don't know if I'm invested in Brightest Day for the long haul. But I'm intrigued enough to keep picking it up for another couple of issues, at least, until I make my mind up.

Elsewhere, a woman sees Aquaman & J'Onn on television apparently soon after they've been resurrected. Something goes off, and she kills her two kids and husband. Saying "J'Onnnnnnnnnnnnz"
That would have been interesting if it wasn't for the fact they just did that the previous issue with Black Manta.

Is this going to be a trend for every returning character? Somebody snaps kills some people and screams said returned characters name?

I'm glad I'm skipping this. It sounds way too formulaic.

                        From CBR's The Buy Pile:

"Brightest Day" #2 was more "trailers masquerading as story bits" which also had the weird distinction of having a whole lot more Martian Manhunter than one might expect, given that Aquaman's on the cover (and he had maybe two or three pages worth of time in the whole comic).

We weren't familiar with that bit either...because it was retconned.
