Marvel To Publish An 'Illuminati' Comic?

Well, last week Marvel registered the trademark for “Illuminati” for “Comic books; printed periodicals in the field of comic book stories and artwork”.

This usually means that Marvel are planning a comic book of the same name and are getting the trademark in early, or that the TV/movie/games wing of the publisher is pursuing something along those lines and they want to shore up the comic book name rights against anyone who fancies trying it on, or someone is proposing a legal challenge.

Read the Hollywood Reporter article Tazz referred to. Its all "insider" information but they are the biggest trade paper in the industry so I trust them. I don't have any doubts FF will be great but I think it all means that Trank is going to have to humble himself or end up doing his own thing for a long time until another studio takes a chance on him again.

Thanks, West and Tazz. Read the article. Makes more sense now. So, basically, we've got a director who is actively killing his career before even starting. The dog damage bit was humorous.

He was Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit movies, and John Watson on Sherlock. (He was also Arthur Dent in the Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy movie from a while back.) Those are the only things I recall him from.

He seems to play "baffled" really well.

SPIDER-MAN Director: Marvel and Sony Considering WARM BODIES, PITCH PERFECT Helmers

In the wake of the massive opening of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, it’s no surprise that the audition process everybody’s talking about is the selection of a director for the next iteration of Sony Pictures’ live-action Spider-Man franchise, the first one that teams rights holder Sony Pictures with Marvel Studios genius Kevin Feige (after Ultron became Marvel’s ninth straight hit, is that designation overstatement?)

There are all kinds of rumors raging about the wall crawler, including that Feige and his producing accomplice Amy Pascal are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies, each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker, who’ll already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again. The tone they are searching for in the coming of age tale is John Hughes humor and emotion, plus all the superhero stuff.

Here are the filmmakers I’m told are seriously in the mix right now. Don’t take this as being all inclusive, but it sounds like things are moving quickly and they could make a decision by the end of next week and make a final choice with studio chief Tom Rothman. There is 50/50 and Warm Bodies writer/helmer Jonathan Levine; Ted Melfi, writer/director of Golden Globe-nommed St. Vincent; Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore; John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors/writers of the updated version of John Hughes’ Vacation; and Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean writer/director Jared Hess.

There is a separate simultaneous search going on for a new young actor to play Peter Parker. That role might be cast before a director and writers are set because the character is expected to show up in the next Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War, which is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo before they take over The Avengers franchise. Tell you more when I know it.

I see him as a Henry Gyrich or some other sort of government person.

I would love to see Stephen Colbert as Henry Gyrich. I despise the character, but he could pull it off so fucking perfectly that you'd forget all about Colbert Nation.

Gyrich is a bit too "alpha" for Freeman IMO; Id see him more as Raymond Sikorski than anything else......

KEVIN FEIGE EXTENDS MARVEL CONTRACT; TALKS MCU



Good news for fans of the Marvel cinematic universe as it's learned Kevin Feige has extended his Marvel contract.

Feige recently attended a Q&A at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, where students watched a prescreening of Avengers 2.

Feige offered his Marvel contract has recently been renewed, but wouldn't say anything more on the subject.

Feige is the president and producer of Marvel Studios overseeing the billion dollar plus franchise for Disney as well as is involved with Marvel properties at other studios including Sony's Spider-Man.

The most recent Marvel movie to have debuted, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is already at $700 million worldwide. Up next for Feige is Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 and the new Sony standalone Spider-Man.

At the Q&A, Feige also let it be known that at any given moment Marvel is thinking 10 to 20 years ahead for their films, but is actively working on the next 5 years, and that what matters most is the movie coming out next. Feige said the current long term focus is the Phase 3 movies.

Feige also said that the characters from the Marvel TV series might make future appearances in future films - or they might not - but that they won't rule anything out.

Another detail mentioned by Kevin Feige was that a scene meant for The Avengers 2 will show up in Captain America: Civil War, which was a joint decision by both Feige and director Joss Whedon. Feige said the scene was one of his favorites.

Regarding the future use of the same actors, Feige let it be known the characters will continue, but whether or not they will continue with the current actors is unknown as absolutely nothing is set in stone.

Feige answered a question regarding the MCU becoming "darker" (I'm guessing compared to the DC movies) with Feige responding the Marvel movies won't be going that route, but will always have the tone and humor they have now. Feige said he "hoped people would catch on by now" that there will be "no giant dark turns in the MCU - the humor is the DNA of the movies and there are no plans to change that."
