      poster-large.jpg?lastmod=1.jpg

“People have always been keen on watching people die . . . ”
Alright for PG-13. If you've seen the first and like it, worth seeing. If not and you're interested in the concept (people in an escape room which turns out to be for life and death), check out the first first.

      G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)
      latest?cb=20160122080114.jpg

“Making more things go boom before 9 AM than most people do all day.”
—My recent Joe move and arrival of a few more Classified figures led me to watch this yet again. Still my favorite live-action adaptation of the franchise. If it weren't for the nostalgia of the animated movie, I'd call it my favorite.

      Men in Black 3 (2012)
      JSE1TtThqZVOBWnaCedE0rpio9.jpg

“Told you to trust the pie.”
—Completed re-watching the trilogy while I still have Instant Netflix.

[Rifftrax:] Star Wars Episode VI (Special Edition): The Return of the Jedi (1983/1997/2010)

      • Silent Venom (2009)

        "I hate snakes." - Luke Perry, R.I.P.

Not gonna lie, this a B movie through and through, possibly the bottom of the barrel with all its tackiness, stupid dialogue, and dumb story line, which is this: a U.S. sub is sent to Asia to pick up 2 scientists on a highly classified mission and return them back home. What the crew (and head scientist) doesn't know is that the cargo is full of 20 venomous snakes, including 2 large CGI rendered mutants of a rattler and some other species. Of course, some idiot gets curious and the next thing you know, it's "Snakes on a Submarine". What is so pitiful, to me, is that the snakes shown to be "venomous" are anything but (except for the 2 CGI duds). I mean even a layman would know the basic difference between poisonous and non-poisonous species. So the villains in question are mostly King Snakes, Constrictors like Boas and Pythons, Corn Snakes, even Garter Snakes. And of course every time there's a snake shot, you hear tail rattles and heavy hissing. In that sense, it's dumb and dumber. The actors, including Mr. Perry, did a satisfactory job with the weak dialogue they were given, but the main human villain was so over the top I was rooting for the snakes. It was actually his fault all these serpents were brought aboard against the orders of his direct superior, who was only to bring 5 snakes.

So the cheese factor is high.

But the one thing this movie did wonderfully was give me claustrophobia with snakes hiding everywhere on a sub with small/tight quarters. I get a chill up my spine every time I see one in the yard, so watching this gave me the sensation of being surrounded...confined in a small room in the dark with 20 snakes. That would make me pee my pants in public. I haven't experienced this feeling in a very long time. Best I can describe it's like Alien '79 X 10.

So if you have time to spare and want a shock to the system, I think this one will do it for ya, despite all its detractors.

"Everybody was afraid. It's understandable. It's like in a dark room, trying to find a dark cat."
-Decent documentary about Soviet hockey. I'm not a sports fan, but I like a good documentary and am intrigued by stories behind the Iron Curtain.

—25th anniversary. Don't have a copy, but it was free (with commercials) on Tubi. Man, Moore was fit then (not that she's let herself go or anything). Good stuff. Glad I took the time (had to fit it around a meeting I had to attend) to re-watch.

When I watched G.I. Jane last night on Tubi, I glanced at what was new there and thought of you. They had one called Shark Side of the Moon about Nazi experimented bipedal sharks left on the moon. If I didn’t know it was going to be a bunch of crappy CGI, that would’ve been enough to grab me. I mean, what a great title.

Yup, watched it, CGI was not that good, story was weird, it's one of those movies you watch then don't know what to think about it, so you don't waste your time and just move on. I give credit to Tubi for making their own movies, but they have a long road to travel before they get to Netflix quality standards.

Good, but sad movie. I can't speak to the historical accuracy except what I see online (which is that they took a number of liberties especially with the timeline).

You probably know this, but there's more than 3 Hellraiser movies. Still, the first three is probably a good place to stop.

—Watching Movie Dumpster’s podcast on #3 put me in the mood to rewatch the movies. Since I only have this on VHS (with no working VCR now) and don’t have #2 at all, I hit those just before they expired on Tubi.

—Can't remember if I saw this back in the day, but man it's disjointed and unnecessarily convoluted (like with the Colony that seems a ripoff of The Prisoner) for an otherwise simple kidnap/revenge flick.

Several of them started as non-Hellraiser scripts that the studio made into Hellraiser sequels to get made. You can tell, too, because Pinhead usually just shows up for a minute.

It's complicated and it's been a while since I watched them, but in that world, I'd say the world of the Cenobites is the Hell in so far as it exists. One of the last post-Bradley films doubled down on that interpretation by introducing angels.

That would be 3 his last correct? Also with the rummblings of a new Friday the 13th film next year i like a direct sequel to Jason goes to hell where he is in hell the whole film. One of the ideas to end Freddy vs Jason was have pinhead split them up wile in a ring of entrails saying gentleman what is the problem. Imagine what Jason Could be fighting

Ironically, watched this on Netflix. I liked it more than I expected. I thought (and kind of heard) that they would white wash the corporate nature of Blockbuster and ignore the Mom and Pop video stores that I loved, but they didn't 100% do that and the one that survives is much more of a Mom-and-Pop store with the name. Recommend.

Not sure if you're asking if he's only in the first three or if they've done three without. Either way, Doug Bradley as Pinhead appears (however briefly in some cases) in the first 8 movies and they have (so far) done 2 without him (Revelations and Judgment).
