      • And my Wes Craven choice for tonight was . . .

        Scream (1996)

        "Now Syd, don't you blame the movies. Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!"

        ================================================== =====================================

        Night Falls on Manhattan (1996)

        "Nail it."

        ================================================== =====================================

        The Scorpion King (2002)

        "Let me tell you, after a long day of looting and pillaging, there is no greater city than Gomorrah except maybe Sodom."

        • I bought this a few weeks ago and the wife and I finally watched it this weekend. It was made for tv but the production values are movie quality. The actors are very good with a lot of big names. It's a mini series but watches like a movie trilogy. If you're into this story of period pieces/genre, I recommend it. Worth every penny.

            I remember watching that on the History Channel as it aired. Such a good miniseries. The soundtrack is quite good, too, Costner and his band doing all the music for it.

              Have you seen the documentary about the remake, Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau? I saw it and found it very interesting. I recommend watching it if you haven't.

                Yeah, I remember watching that when it came out. Pretty decent and I learned some things about the feud (that I double checked online).

                No, but I had heard of it. Honestly, I can't compare it to the theatrical cut because I haven't seen it since I was young (if I ever saw it all the way through).

                It was pretty good. I liked York in it and Lancaster was decent.

                The makeup effects were great.

                • Straight Outta Compton - This was great! They glossed over a few things for time's sake and downplayed MC Ren's contributions, but this was still a great flick, especially if you're a fan of the music.

                  Focus - Pretty good, but after the first big con, it was kind of predictable; you start to figure out that everything is an elaborate ruse. Still, the ride is fun.

                  Time Lapse - This kind of felt like a Steven King book adaptation, especially with the progression of the film. It started slow, but was quite entertaining... and I love me some Danielle Panabaker.

                    Cheech and Chong: Hey, Watch This (2010)

                    "The truth is we got rich and you can't get a Mexican to do anything when he's rich."

                    A tape of the San-Antonio reunion of the stoner duo. Pretty funny routines.

                      I didn't watch that at all, aside from seeing the one scene with the two guys waking up in the barn, and the one asks who his buddy sees outside. Dude says "It's Devil Anse!" and the other guy asks who's with him.

                      "Ain't he enough?!" his friend says.

                      I laughed pretty good at that. One man is so damn fierce he's not just called "Devil," he's more than multiple men can handle. That's a helluva rep.

                        "So, you're ninja mutant turtle teenagers?
                        -When you put it like that, it sounds ridiculous!"

                        Well, this wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting. I already knew how freaky they looked. On the story or acting side, I don't think it was any worse than TMNT 2 or 3.

                          • Music of the Heart (1999)

                            "I want you all to play from your heart. Forget about the audience, watch me, you'll do just fine. Just play from here."

                            Believe it or not, this inspirational true story is a Wes Craven film. It's about a divorced mother who starts a violin program in East Harlem. When the school board wants to cut it ten years later, the kids end up holding a benefit concert (at Carnegie Hall!) with accompanists like Itzhak Perlman to help. Pretty cool.

                            • War (2007)

                              "I have no master, so I have betrayed no one."

                              After his partner and partner's family are brutally murdered by a legendary ghost-like hitman, an FBI agent spends years hunting down the killer. But the assassin has a scheme of his own, double-crossing both sides in an escalating war between the Triads and Yakuza.

                              I have to say, this was pretty good. The action scenes were well done, though Statham's tough guy act was a little hard to believe at times (he hams it up). Trying to figure out the agenda of Rogue (the hitman) is a real guessing game, because every stunt he pulls leaves more bodies on each side, and yet neither one distrusts him.

                              In a way, this film is very similar to The Usual Suspects, and I think fans of that will like this. I don't entirely agree with the ending, but that happens sometimes with this sort of film.
