  • I have been hesitant to see this because of a plethora of really mixed reviews. To me Days of Future Past and First Class were the only two X-men movies worth watching, and I really like them both. But I think I'll pass on this one. Maybe just go watch Civil War again instead.

I don't think it's bad. It's far better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: The Last Stand. X:A isn't as good as the other three Bryan Singer directed X-Men films though. Someone else should direct the next one while Singer produces it. X:A felt like more of the same and needs a new creative team for future installments.

I respectfully disagree- it has always been my understanding that Duke was the "face" of the Joe team just as Prime was the "face" of the Autobots, and I'm fairly certain (but I don't know this for a fact) that in every incarnation of the tv shows, Duke was the defacto leader and always included, just as the Commander has always been the leader of Cobra.

Well, no worries, your "side" won the day. I probably would've agreed as a kid. It was listening to the commentary by the writer, who was very disappointed by the mandate from Hasbro, that convinced me of the above.

I agree that Duke was the in-the-trenches leader (platoon commander I guess), but I still see him as different because he had an on-the-base commander (Gen. Hawke). Optimus had no superiors on Earth (heck, we didn't even learn about his equals until what season 2?). So, he's kind of Duke and Gen. Hawke all wrapped up together.

Oh, I wasn't taking sides on whether he should have died or not. Prime died and he was still back for every show. LoL. Even if they had killed him off, he still would have been the face of the Joe team in later incarnations because he was the most recognizable.

The point I was trying to make (that I initially disagreed with) is that I think the equation of Duke : GI Joe = Prime : Transformers is correct.

Also, I wouldn't expect anyone to know this off the top of their heads, but Prime did have a superior in the G1 mythos- Alpha Trion, although he was more of an Obi-Wan character than commanding general. In many later eras of the Transformers, Prime had a variety of commanding officers. In the "Animated" version, it was Ultra Magnus who was his superior! That was shocking when I first saw that. Haha.

            • The Swinging Cheerleaders (1974)

"Ra ra rass, kick them in the ass."

Not as risque as it sounds (though it is still within the exploitation realm). It's mostly about a racket to fix a the games of a college football team. I wanted to see it because Jack Hill (who had done Spider Baby and Coffy) directed it. Not his best, but I've seen worse 70s drive-in flicks.

I really enjoyed this film. The best Bryan Singer film to date as most of the characters weren't monotone, but rather had some different personalities. Some good emotional moments with Magneto. Apocalypse was a good villain; however his four horsemen didn't have much to do. The ending is probably what most critics didn't like.

                But, the film was fun.

I liked this a lot more than expected considering I don't like disco or clubbing.

7th or 8th time I've watched this. Amazing. The cheap shot at Charles Xavier is worth the price of admission alone.

I like a lot of blaxploitation (and grindhouse in general), but this has got to be my favorite. It has everything you'd want from that kind of film.

"Here's to the witches and warlocks!"

Another movie way less provocative than you'd guess from the title; here's not even any nudity in it, but there are Satanists.

                              Bloodsucking Freaks (1976)

"Well, whom am I to say what's art and what isn't?"

This on the hand, was probably much more over the top than you'd imagine.

                              Samurai Cop (1991)

"Now I'm telling these son-of-a-b***es that we respect the Japanese of this country, who are honest businessmen. And yeah, this is the land of opportunity for legitimate business, not for death merchants who distribute drugs to our children through schools and on the streets. Now I'm telling these mother f***ers that if they continue killing our children to make their precious millions that they deposit in their secret Swiss bank accounts, counselor, before your last suit even gets off the court clerk's desk, I'll have their stinking bodies in garbage bags and ship them back to Japan for fertilizer. Got it?"
